Rules (2024-08-30)

  1. This is an English-language community. Comments should be in English. Posts can link to non-English news sources when providing a full-text translation in the post description. Automated translations are fine, as long as they don't overly distort the content.
  2. No links to misinformation or commercial advertising. When you post outdated/historic articles, add the year of publication to the post title. Infographics must include a source and a year of creation; if possible, also provide a link to the source.
  3. Be kind to each other, and argue in good faith. Don't post direct insults nor disrespectful and condescending comments. Don't troll nor incite hatred. Don't look for novel argumentation strategies at Wikipedia's List of fallacies.
  4. No bigotry, sexism, racism, antisemitism, islamophobia, dehumanization of minorities, or glorification of National Socialism. We follow German law; don't question the statehood of Israel.
  5. Be the signal, not the noise: Strive to post insightful comments. Add "/s" when you're being sarcastic (and don't use it to break rule no. 3).
  6. If you link to paywalled information, please provide also a link to a freely available archived version. Alternatively, try to find a different source.
  7. Light-hearted content, memes, and posts about your European everyday belong in other communities.
  8. Don't evade bans. If we notice ban evasion, that will result in a permanent ban for all the accounts we can associate with you.
  9. No posts linking to speculative reporting about ongoing events with unclear backgrounds. Please wait at least 12 hours. (E.g., do not post breathless reporting on an ongoing terror attack.)
  10. Always provide context with posts: Don't post uncontextualized images or videos, and don't start discussions without giving some context first.

(This list may get expanded as necessary.)

Posts that link to the following sources will be removed

Unless they're the only sources, please also avoid The Sun, Daily Mail, any "thinktank" type organization, and non-Lemmy social media (incl. Substack). Don't link to Twitter directly, instead use xcancel.com. For Reddit, use old:reddit:com

(Lists may get expanded as necessary.)

Ban lengths, etc.

We will use some leeway to decide whether to remove a comment.

If need be, there are also bans: 3 days for lighter offenses, 7 or 14 days for bigger offenses, and permanent bans for people who don't show any willingness to participate productively. If we think the ban reason is obvious, we may not specifically write to you.

If you want to protest a removal or ban, feel free to write privately to the admin that applied the rule (check modlog first to find who was it.)

You can't even revive one killed child with that money.

So let Israel's government pay for it, without raising tax on the non-perpetrators.

Preferably the ultra-orthodox, the wealthiest, government lawmakers, and the settlers should pay. One can choose to not be a religious extremist, a tax evader and wage thief, corrupt, or violent and antisocial. The circumstances create these people; and these people have the power to break that cycle.

Let the others cooperate and abolish Israel, that it may become Canaan; a society for all, be they Palestinian, Israeli, be they Muslim, Jewish, Christian, Druze, or Irreligious. If Israel is to truly overcome its past of the Holocaust, it must treat all with liberation before the law.

The point is the business.

There were some people that made a lot of mony destroying it and will make much more rebuilding it.

Which reconstruction?

It will either become wasteland or part of Israel. The right-wing extremist Nethanjahu wonβ€˜t allow a reconstruction.

[–] Fusselwurm@feddit.org 3 points 1 day ago

No it won't, unless someone is willing to spend the money.

Isn't that the USA/Israel/Palestine's problem? Why does the EU count these expenses?

[–] Bazell@lemmy.zip 12 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Because of Israel and the USA don't count this expenses yet, I suppose. So the EU took initiative as a independent(maybe not fully) 3d party analyst.

The EU is currently in the whitewashing phase of the genocide, where they pretend that they were always against it the whole time and are now totally comitted to helping to rebuild and creating a palestinian state. Obviously that state will be disarmed and under IDF occupation, but thats the price for freedom amiright? In the end Israel will stage some false flag operation and then the EU will go back to saying "Israel has a right to defend itself" and the genocide continues like before.

EU was/is also selling weapons to Israel, weapons they use for genocide, it wasn't/isn't just the US.

[–] username_1@programming.dev 0 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It doesn't answer my question though...

[–] Keeponstalin@lemmy.world -2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

For the same reasons it applies to the US, it applies to the EU as well

[–] username_1@programming.dev -2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I don't see how. US has some interests in the region (their own or just as a "vassal" of Israel) but what it has to do with the EU?

[–] Keeponstalin@lemmy.world -2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

By selling Israel weapons to do Genocide with, what are you talking about. Some EU nations even directly helped the IOF in their genocidal campaign.

[–] username_1@programming.dev 0 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Almost all countries who produce weapons sell them to other countries. I still don't see why the EU should bother counting Gaza rebuilding expenses.

[–] Keeponstalin@lemmy.world -2 points 1 day ago

The genocide is why, pretty simple

Terrible on cost of human lives and expensive in financial terms. We, as humankind, should rather have create peace there sand everywhere.

For aspiring peacebuilders I recommend the free online course about "positive peace", the conditions that create and sustain peaceful societies πŸ‘‡ https://www.positivepeace.academy/

Hamas will certainly come up with ways how to spend your money, just as all the previous money and help poured into Gaza.

You can't fill a strainer with water nor can you help civilians in Gaza - when they are controled by armed paramilitaries with no civilians' protection as the priority.

There are plenty of great NGOs doing a wonderful job. Why are you like this?
