Why 40%? The value of his labor that's being redirected to the pockets of wealthy CEOs is much higher than that.

[–] Funkt4st1c@lemmy.world 2 points 13 hours ago

My calculations when i was working in a factory came out to about a 97.65% loss on my labor. Every piece i made was sold for $75, took me about a minute to make, and included about 7 other people to sell (oven, paint, quality inspection, forklift to trailer, forklift off trailer, stocker, cashier), 3 more if you include the parts before me (material procurement, forklift to trailer, and the same guy as before to take it off the trailer)

I made easily 90 parts an hour, and was paid $25 an hour regardless of output. I paid 15% on taxes (fed, state, local) because im married and my wife cant work. The quarterly pizza party or $100 bonus was absolutely not worth the cost of my labor.

40% of his pay. They don't pay workers the full value of their labor... that would be ridiculous! Communism, even!

[–] eatCasserole@lemmy.world 10 points 4 days ago

There's another 30% that goes to non-cannibalistic regular pedophiles.

[–] Mongostein@lemmy.ca 6 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Because it said pay and not value?

[–] GreenBeard@lemmy.ca 5 points 4 days ago

It varies by industry, but generally you are correct.

[–] RumorsOfLove@lemmy.dbzer0.com -5 points 4 days ago (1 children)

So many layers of tax, each bleeding a worker who would otherwise be able to contribute more to the other workers.

[–] Voroxpete@sh.itjust.works 20 points 4 days ago (4 children)

Taxes are how you contribute to other workers. The notion that taxes are "stolen" is libertarian bullshit preached by the people who want to drive us back into feudalism.

[–] RumorsOfLove@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

BBQ parties and helping them move are how you contribute to other workers.

Sales taxes are how you still cant afford bratwurst.

And when they say your taxes go to healthcare, you think it goes to doctors and nurses. Actually most of it goes to brian thompson types.

[–] Voroxpete@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Ah yes, regular BBQ parties are notably more valuable than healthcare. Of course. Turns out my $700 pellet smoker can do the job of an entire hospital and I never knew!

[–] RumorsOfLove@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

tax money goes to consultants. lobbyists. hospital non-compete clauses. administration. hospital ai. ceo paychecks. drug monopolies. patents. buying bias in science, etc.

also, taxing the rich is possible if the system becomes simpler. the more complex the system, the greater the lawyers payout

[–] Voroxpete@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 days ago

None of those things are arguments against having taxation. You're just quibbling over how taxes are collected and spent.

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 2 points 4 days ago

Taxes are how you contribute to other workers

...in a system where politicians actually represent their constituents instead of their corporate donors.

preached by the people who want to drive us back into feudalism.

Even feudal lords demanded tribute. That's basically what taxation is in a system where the government is this blatantly corrupt.

[–] architect@thelemmy.club 1 points 4 days ago

At this point I no longer believe taxes go to anything good. Even the fucking welfare is all a grift with these politicians.

[–] driftwood@lemmy.zip -3 points 4 days ago (2 children)

So the orange one paying to prevent wind farm construction is contributing to the workers? 🤔

[–] Voroxpete@sh.itjust.works 11 points 4 days ago

No matter what, you will always be able to name a government expenditure you personally disagree with. It is ridiculously childish to conclude from that fact that government spending as a whole should not exist.

[–] WaxRhetorical@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

No, but the alternative is not some no-tax, every-person-for-themselves anarchy.

[–] 2hundredpancakes@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Please do yourself and others a favor and don't conflate libertarians with actual anarchism.

[–] pupbiru@aussie.zone 4 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (2 children)

whilst modern anarchism certainly has a lot of good points to make, anarchism in general also covers some pretty horrendous ways of structuring society…

anarchism is, at its core, is just absense of government and rulers

The word "anarchy" was first defined by Ancient Greek philosophy, which understood it to be a corrupted form of direct democracy, where a majority of people exclusively pursue their own interests

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarchy

that original definition pretty well covers “everyone for themselves anarchy”

you can argue “yes but no serious anarchist”, but the word at its core doesn’t just mean the serious and thought out structures

it is what it is: anarchy can mean chaos, it’s just that when discussing with people who are discussing the implementation of anarchy, it’s widely agreed that chaos is not the goal and thus other systems are put in place

it is frustrating that the modern version of the word has become synonymous with only the kind of anarchism that’s generally agreed is not the way any of this should be implemented… but anarchism still covers those shit takes

That's certainly... true enough from a prescriptivist perspective. However the layman likely doesn't care about all that, and frankly neither do I. Anarcho-capitalism (US libertarianism, read: feudalism) is about as true to "modern anarchism" as Nazism (fascism) is to socialism.

Anyway, I find your "contribution" kinda unhelpful and kinda masturbatory, so... goodbye

[–] lyrial@anarchist.nexus 5 points 4 days ago (1 children)

It is extremely frustrating that anarchism had been deliberately stigmatized and demonized through all forms of media for decades. Like someone in a movie describing a riot as "total anarchy."

Yeah, the unending propaganda is just awful. And necessary to perpetuate any system that can't stand on its own merits. "Tyranny requires constant effort."

55 hour work week? Over ten hours a day? What the actual fuck?

[–] zod000@lemmy.dbzer0.com 13 points 4 days ago

I used to work nearly 100 hours a week in my early 20s. It was going to kill me for sure, but 50-60 hours a week isn't uncommon sadly

[–] AlecSadler@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 4 days ago

Um, this is fairly normal in the US.

Not saying it's right or good, but, yes.

[–] Sunspear@piefed.social 9 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I mean technically, if you commute 90 minutes in a direction per day, along with a five-day 40-hour week, you spend 55 hours on work a week

And while 90 minutes may be far fetched in most parts of europe hopefully, I kind of suspect it isn't in the land of the free

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

I kind of suspect it isn't in the land of the free

Dude I once worked two jobs on alternating days of the week on cities 45 miles in opposite directions. You have no idea how embarrassing it is to drive to work and then realize you're in the wrong parking lot when you get to work after a 90 minute drive because traffic sucks.

Dammit now I need some fried food

[–] Derpenheim@lemmy.zip 7 points 4 days ago

America. It fucking sucks here

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 3 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

i knew someone in CC that did 12hr/day for 5-6days a long time ago. not surprised he burned out of his major, and switched to a more "chill major", because your own job overtook your time from studying. never try to do full time work, while full time student, you just end doing really bad on most of your classes. the rent at the time was pretty reasonable for and lucky he even found one at a HCOL like under 1000/mon rent at the time. he was trying to save for an expensive grad school in the future, but had a "eiphany' and 180 his career choices, to a 'Easier" but questionable job market job(degree)

[–] frazw@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago

You are assuming a 5 day work week apparently...

[–] Smaile@lemmy.ca 2 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

[–] CalypsoGirl@lemmy.today 5 points 4 days ago (1 children)

"child eating pedophiles" and child-eating pedophiles are two entirely opposite things. Hyphens matter.

[–] whereitsat@lemmy.zip -4 points 4 days ago (1 children)

your average american can't read past elementary school but here you are with your pedantic nerd bullshit to act like details matter.

critique by grammer.. i dare you.

[–] paorzz@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago

Relax dude, it's not that serious.

Did CalypsoGirl hit a sore spot or something?

[–] Ilovethebomb@sh.itjust.works 9 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Who the fuck wears a hard hat hi viz in their lounge?

[–] CalypsoGirl@lemmy.today 3 points 4 days ago

Because it's a single-panel cartoon in which they need to convey an entire concept with only one picture and a few words. TL;DR Cartoons aren't real.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

just came home to sit down tired?

[–] Ilovethebomb@sh.itjust.works 0 points 3 days ago
