The current domain is basically invisible to search engines. sh.itjust.works is too long, the .works TLD isn't SEO-friendly, and the "sh." subdomain doesn't add value. Why not use something shorter like itjustworks.com or itjustworks.org instead?

Is this deliberate? Would appreciate if an admin could explain the reason.

Better domain? This is the best domain.

You think a lemmy server is going to get on google's front page because the TLD changed to .org?

What made you think I use Google Search as an engine? My point is that the domain name is long. It doesn't matter whether it's .org or something else. shorter domain name would be better, in my opinion.

I like the domain and I really don't care for it to be SEOed!

Also even if there is a decent overlap, appearing as 55th biggest in MAU among all softwares on FediDB, not being the immediate result in most searches should be good. I'd expect people to choose if not the first, then at least one of the first instances they find, so other instances appearing in searches helps spreading out, and thus not making a specific one disproportionally big.

Shhh, it just works

SEO-friendly

add value

looks at you with a degree of side-eye somewhere between "bombastic" and "criminal offensive"...

It's for teh lulz.

Tell that to the gajillion of Mastodon servers whose TLD is .social. Including mastodon.social which is home to over 20% of all monthly active Fediverse users.

I don't think the domain is the issue so much as the servers it's run off of. Love the instance, but god damn the number of times it just straight up fails to load. It's almost comical because of the name.
