an Irish woman who was murdered by her husband in 1895. She was either immolated or her body was set on fire immediately after her death. The husband's stated motive was his belief that she had been abducted by fairies and replaced with a changeling, which he then killed.
I think about this woman a lot. It really seemed like she wanted to go and do things, enjoy life, and then life and circumstance just said "no"

Admittedly only dumped ~20 hours into one game, so may not have the most holistic view on the game.
But feels like there's a ton of quests that are "go hunt this monster", find out the monster's motivations, realize it was the humans/"civilized folk" who dealt the first blow / profaned nature / failed to perform some ritual, Geralt grits teeth and sides with civilization against obviously wronged nature/monster.
So yeah, I didn't see any "its actually domestic abuse" quests, but the games are crawling with "humans have hubris/pride that is their own downfall" commentary.
I wasn't talking about the third game in the series but the books the games are based on.
Can't speak to those myself, but also the show had some similar themes so would assume that's an underlying motif to the whole series.
I'm def not the best guy to be answering your question, but from what I've seen, it has been a pretty prevalent notion of the franchise.
Then you watch a YouTube video later that shows you missed an option to talk to a thief that was going to rob them and saw the wife strangling the children.

this is legit what is going on. idiots think they are using their magical powers and they know THE TRUTH about the Clancy case and lots of other idiots believe them and they are so insane they are protesting outside the courthouse and harassing jurors.
Can't argue with that, I'm just worried that - since it's 4chan - the aim is to discredit the idea that Clancy was under psychosis and that she should not be fully held accountable for this tragedy.

There is a tiktok movement that believes that despite all evidence and witness statements, phone logs, and surveillance footage that somehow the husband is responsible.
This is supported by vibes, astrology and folk magic, it's very strange. The court case isn't even about who's responsible for the murder, it's about if the Defense has a valid insanity plea to keep her from jail or getting institutionalized.

It's a weird situation, most insanity pleas are fought with the defense having to prove they were mentally unwell and incapable of being willingly responsible for their actions but because of the lead up to the crime, it's being handled in reverse.
She killed those kids but doesn't want to go to jail and pleads not guilty by insanity so she wants to be institutionalized. The plaintiff argues she wasn't insane and was in control of her actions due to how functional she was till the last minute before the crime would have been possible as she orchestrated the conditions to allow her to commit the murders. It's an interesting case that's getting muddled by the publics personnel beliefs and is also being co-opted for political purposes by right-wingers as proof the 19th amendment was a mistake.
It's insane to see how we even got to this point but it's being compared to the OJ murders for a reason.
it's also a proxy for class/gender war. she's a rich white woman, do you think if she was any other demographic she'd be able to get away with this, let alone have other white women fan girling super hard for her?
some folks legit seem to think no rich person should ever be held accountable for their crimes, especially if they are female.
plus the entire thing is insane and heinous and evokes intense emotions in pretty much everyone who hears about it.

To the point, I've noticed that too, it's so overwhelmingly obvious that none of the support she's getting is authentic, it's clear people are using this for their or culture war nonsense and it's concerning as the precedent this case could set can have some serious consequences.
It feels like a lot of people aren't taking this seriously, the arguments/discussions people are trying to make around this can snowball into something disastrous.
My wife started getting into it from Instagram crap and was talking about how it's possible if not likely the husband actually did it.
I took 5 minutes to find she's not even saying she didn't do it and that still doesn't matter to her.
I do not fucking get it, and was accused of being misogynistic for not thinking it was possible the husband did it.

I honestly don't get how so any people feel they have a leg in this race.
Personally haven't been on any of the major platforms for years, but as an outsider looking in, I blame social media. It openly encourages this kind of mob behavior and amplifes the most insane voices with reckless abandon.
Absolutely agree, I got off all social media except Reddit and then Lemmy when I realized how it was being used and the enshittification of course.
I got her on reddit too years ago and that was better, but then the apipocalypse got us both off the platform and I went to Lemmy and she went to Insta. :/
She's gotten noticably more anti-men since too, I get it men fucking suck but she's like straight up getting to a misandric level.

Was in a similar situation with an Ex, she got super into insta, which on its own was fine but it was difficult to deal with how worked up she'd get for what seemed just so mundane to me. There was some new random cause or social issue every other day and every issue was black and white, just 2 sides, no expectations.
It reminded me when I was a teen on FB in the early years where everyone seemed to be some form of slack-tavist. People seriously underestimate how much these apps and algorithms can effect others.
I live in the exact same scenario and have had at least two heated arguments with my wife about it. I guess it's a mix of loss of trust in official sources, (quite reasonable) misandry, love for the drama... And in all of this, I still believe Clancy should get the insanity plea. There was a case in the country where I live that happened about twenty years ago, and the poor woman who ended up in jail is still used as the butt of the joke of memes about hating kids.
Yeah there's no doubt the medical system failed her spectacularly and she should get the insanity plea IMO.
But then social media makes it a woman vs man thing instead of focusing on how it exemplifies how fucking horrible our medical system is.
Gets my conspiracy brain going a little on that one lol.

I dated a lawyer who believed in astrology and folk magic. A lot of people believe in this shit because they are sad people and it gives meaning and magic to their life... basically Disney adult type shit.
Why would "dumb" mean "not real"? You just said that real people are dumb as hell.
Sure, if you can make the case that you were not in your right mind when you committed a crime and therefore unable to grasp what you were doing (criminal responsibility or Schuldunfähigkeit in German), you cannot be punished. If the court also finds that you were only temporarily in a condition that made you commit the crime but will most likely not do anything like it again and are not a danger to others? You may go neither to prison nor to a mental institution.
That's a very interesting way of handling the situation. Honestly think that a more appropriate way of handling/framing the case.
