This dude got so much (unwarranted) hate early in the season, especially after his extension, but he’s done nothing but impress in his fourth year as a safety valve, blocker, and redzone threat.

Definitely one of Poles’ best moves as a GM so far, despite the earlier general consensus that we overspent on him among the fanbase. He could soon make a case for being a top 5 TE in the NFL, and he doesn’t get nearly enough recognition.

He has a well rounded skill set. Not elite at anything specific really, but good at just about everything you want in a tight end. He wont ever be Travis Kelce and thats ok. Hes still a top 10 guy and Im glad we extended him.

[–] Gryffindorq@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

god i feel so vindicated too. love Kmet. couldnt believe i had to defend him because i (wrongly, apparently) thought his play spoke for itself

he’s more of a Gronk or Hockenstein than a Gates or Kelce and i think sometimes (more stiff vs more fluid) and that seems to come off weird sometimes

but also look at the pro bowl and all-pro level DEs he’s blocked this season 1 on 1, not the least of which was Hunter yesterday

[–] Tlupa@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Hockenstein lmao

[–] Silver_Harvest@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Do like how Cole has been developing. Contract is already proving worth it, seeing top TEs age like Wine will be nice to see year over year growth.

[–] soxfan10@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (3 children)

The most impressive thing I saw from last night was how he just kept FIGHTING for those yards. The first couple first downs Chicago had he was a mini Kittle it seemed. Really happy with his extension/hope he stays in Chicago a while.

[–] LegendaryWarriorPoet@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Swole Cole always fights like crazy for extra yards, him and Montgomery are the two best I’ve seen at it for the Bears in a long time

[–] carnivorous_seahorse@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I’m a ND fan. I loved cole then, I love cole now. Pls retire the bat swing celebration

[–] Shadowrak@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

The thing people who just look at numbers never understood about Montgomery was that he broke an absolutely insane percent of tackles in college and continued to do it in the NFL. Ironically that is a straight up countable stat but it isn't one of the ones the basic fucktards have been told to look at by ESPN.

Kmet might just be Montgomery in TE form and if it works out that way I could not be happier. Ok well I would be happier if we had both of them and a half decent offensive line.

I could spend hours talking about our O line but I won't.

He gives me Greg Olsen vibes when I watch him. Will grab any ball that is catchable.

Only difference being we didn’t let him walk away.

[–] traveller76@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Kmet is infinitely more physical than Olsen was though.

[–] Parents_Mistake3@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Yeah kmet can pretty much be summed up by the word Macho

Macho man Cole Kmet

[–] jimboslice29@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

That was 1st down where Johnson helped push him was awesome.

[–] TruuPhoenix@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Personally, I believe that TE is one of the few positions where it’s a good thing that the sum of the parts can be better than the parts themselves.

Blocking, catching/route running, and YAC skills. If you can do one of those three, you’ve got a chance to make a team. If you can do two? You’ve probably got a pathway to starting and you’ll probably get paid.

Kmet may be average-to-above average at any of these, but that makes him good by comparison because there’s so many TEs that just exist on rosters and really don’t contribute much. No disrespect either, it just seems hard to stand out when you have to take on multiple roles on offense.

[–] Float_team@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

He’s come a long way, I like him.

He and DJ seem to try hard getting JF options

[–] 52pctbritishirish@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Roschon and Herbert provide decent pass catching options as well. But we definitely need more WR talent. Oh, and an OC that incorporates vertical passing into his schemes as well.

[–] PeanutBear33@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (4 children)

People still pretending kmet blocks?

His entire moveset is put an arm on the edge rusher, leak out for fields to checkdown, run directly to the nearest defender.

[–] Tlupa@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Lmao this guy is insufffferable

[–] Paran0idMan33@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I’m not super high on Kmet at all but he’s been a nice blocker in the run game.

[–] whatever12347@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

He blocks well when he's in true pass protection, like a lineman. Whenever he has to move a good distance and then block, he seems to have issues positioning himself properly.

[–] PeanutBear33@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

And let me guess this take is based entirely because you saw a tweet of him playing hands against the lions where he did do a good job on that one single play and you assumed that's how it normally goes.

Yes, when kmet chooses to try he can block well. He usually doesn't because he wants to leak out for that checkdown.

But like you mentioned his positioning is routinely terrible. This shows especially on run blocking. Where he seems to be what madden based their blocking ai on. Where there's two guys needing to be blocked one a bigger threat and he ends up not blocking either.

[–] ulfniu@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

You can watch just about any game this year and see quickly that Kmet is a trash blocker. He's still got tremendous value for his skills as a receiver. Watch any of J.T. O'Sullivan's Justin Fields "QB School" videos on YT and Kmet gets exposed again and again as absolutely ass at blocking. He's the best the Bears have at TE and I'm glad he's here, but the truth is the truth.

[–] bertster21@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I really like him

[–] hepatitisC@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Can we also appreciate he's a local boy who grew up WANTING TO BE ON THE BEARS! It's not like he's a player who happened upon us and we are lucky to have him. If you watched his draft, his Mom was crying because she knew this was his dream. He showed up, put in the work, and is balling out. If you are wondering what modern player jersey to buy, Kmet should be at the top of your list.

[–] tonybagadildas@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I'm impressed by Poles' eye in this case. Kmet didn't look to me like he deserved the contract he got based on his previous play. But he's been way better this year.

[–] Helpful-Water-7248@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

The only thing I'll disagree with on this post is that the hate (or criticism) from early season was/is unwarranted.

He has weaknesses to his game just like any other player and it's okay to call him out on it without being a hater.

On tape Kmet showed poor blocking and was easier to tackle than he is now. Last season he struggled as a Redzone target.

He has improved a lot in those areas and definitely looks like he will continue to get better.

[–] BakerFifty2@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Ive always thought he was a pretty fantastic blocker but he really cemented himself as a receiver against Atlanta last season. I was at that game and his one-handed grab was jaw dropping. He doesnt get hurt, he consistently fights for extra yardage and hes only showed improvement since entering the league. Barring something freaky happening, Top 5 is well within reach. Hes the whole package.

[–] TonyWilliams03@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

The one certainty about Cole Kmet is he will screw up two plays a game by missing a block, running the wrong route or generally flaking out.

[–] BakerFifty2@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Expecting perfection is unrealistic. His mistakes are few and far between. Feel how you want to but when you set unrealistic expectations, prepare to be disappointed.

[–] Apotheosis69420@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I was whelmed with him at ND, whelmed with him his first few years. He is that guy though. I’ve been thoroughly impressed with him this year. Heck, since his one handed catch in stride last year.

[–] herewegolittlemiss@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Kmet is a top 5 TE in the league

[–] Only_Garbage_8885@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

He had improved his blocking or figured out the schemes and is really doing great. He and Moore complement each other really well. Just need to get the other wr involved more as they are also very talented and have little pressure on them now from kmet and Moore.

[–] Thexnxword@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I think you're giving the wrong Ryan credit lol..

[–] mollusks75@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Poles gave him an extension which is what he is talking about.

[–] Thexnxword@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Yea.. I was being purposely pedantic lol

[–] MissingMyLeftThigh@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I remember arguing with fools his second year because he had zero touchdowns. He also doubled his catch and yard total.

Kmet been a baller.

[–] WBRDeck@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

He already is a top 5. Been saying it all along.

[–] suckmyfatfuckinballs@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Eh he's alright, hopefully he continues to improve.

[–] MuelDaddyLongLegs@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

i haven't watched every minute but I can't remember the last drop he's had or any tbh

[–] NOKNOK_WHOsTHERE71@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

He has come along nicely although I do think he still needs to work on his blocking. He seems to whiff on blocks a little too much but with that said he has improved each year & is solid overall.

[–] ldhchicagobears@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

TE impact across the league seems to be low this year but Cole has done well. He'll never be a world beater at the position but he's worth the contract imo

[–] km222555@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Cole has shown improvement each year he's been in the league, which is what players are supposed to do. The tight end is typically a 3-4 year growth position. Cole had a 600-yard season and a 500-yard/7td season going to the negotiation table this last off-season. Anyone who was down on Cole before this year or for his contract just expects too much from young players. I swear, people have no patience for players adapting to the pro level, and they're part of the problem.

[–] subliminal_trip@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

While I never a Kmet hater, I did question his new deal, and said I doubted he would ever be a top tier tight end. I am glad to admit I was wrong.

[–] Hoosier_816@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

My parents just moved in down the block from his grandma and she only has great things to say about him!

[–] Sks44@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

TE is one of the hardest positions to learn. Kmet was drafted young. He’s still only 24. He’s improved every year and is often asked to do things that hurt his receiving production. But he never complains. He does his damndest. Dude is a great Bear.

[–] tstefanich216@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Love kmet..

[–] Slowsnale@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

these hos aint loyal

[–] BurgerBob1010@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

people have really been hating on Cole Kmet??
