I think the handle's a little short

[–] xavier666@lemm.ee 20 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The maker is probably not aware of the current battery sizes

[–] SaltyIceteaMaker@iusearchlinux.fyi 11 points 1 year ago (1 children)

He might be schocked by a batteries potential

[–] xavier666@lemm.ee 3 points 1 year ago

While making such devices, one should be grounded to reality to avoid making such mistakes

We don't know. There is no banana for scale.

And warmer!

[–] kamen@lemmy.world 47 points 1 year ago (3 children)

In short, this is a battery handle.

[–] Natanael@slrpnk.net 28 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It will unleash the battery's potential

Perhaps, but I think we’ll see a high level of resistance.

[–] Onsotumenh@discuss.tchncs.de 8 points 1 year ago

That might be a hot take.

I once made a deadplug, I was kinda distracted and ended up with a cable with two male plugs. Hangs on my shop wall as memento for "focus on what you're doing" or something.

[–] MajorMajormajormajor@lemmy.ca 27 points 1 year ago

Reminds me of this.

[–] Sludgeyy@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

It's a suicide cord. Works great for generators

Considering that a 12V battery has an internal resistance of 20 milliohms, the potential current through this thing would be approximately 600A.

It might be too hot to handle (pun intended)

[–] Darkassassin07@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 year ago

You can also get that from just the label. The CCA rating (cold cranking amps) is the max current that specific battery can supply in short bursts. 600 CCA is pretty typical, but I've seen up to 900 in the batteries I ship.

Just remember to cut it when you dispose the battery, so that sea turtles won't get stuck in it.

[–] root_beer@midwest.social 6 points 1 year ago

Perfectly. Legal. Thrill.

Hmm. Giving it away a bit here. He cringes well before it discharges.

[–] Gabu@lemmy.ml 17 points 1 year ago (4 children)

Obviously, Mehdi is an electrical engineer. The "dumb guy making things explode" is a persona he puts up to teach people about the dangers and wonders of electricity.

[–] Underwaterbob@lemm.ee 4 points 1 year ago

That's... immensely cool. I wish him luck in his dangerous endeavors.

[–] chemical_cutthroat@lemmy.world 19 points 1 year ago

With that hand, anyway.

[–] Darkassassin07@lemmy.ca 20 points 1 year ago

Took me a min to realize...

I am a "ask me anything" Tech, ask me anything!

[–] Johanno@feddit.de 15 points 1 year ago (1 children)

How long can you hold the handle once it's attached to a fully loaded battery?

Why does it smell like BBQ in here?

[–] Anticorp@lemmy.world 12 points 1 year ago (6 children)

If it's plastic, then it's fine.

A bit of copper would spice things up
