Every time we talk about Justin Fields, the question is, can he become a franchise QB? I think we should stop using the phrase franchise QB, because it sets unrealistically high expectations in some people minds, because many people interpret that word to mean Justin Fields has to play at a Hall Of Fame level or be the next Patrick Mahomes.

So lets change the wording. Lets ask, instead, can Justin Fields play as well and have similar success to Lamar Jackson? Meaning, if we brought in coaches to build a system around Justin like Lamar has a system built around him in Baltimore, can Justin play to the same level that Lamar is playing at?

I suspect that a lot more people would probably say yes to that question, than would say yes to the question of can Justin Fields be a franchise QB.

Now, interestingly, Lamar Jackson probably is a franchise QB. So it is interesting that people would much more likely view it as possible for Justin Fields to play like Lamar Jackson than they would to play like a franchise QB. It goes back to my original point, that the word franchise QB comes with a whole set of unfair expectations with it, and that we should stop using it for Justin Fields.

Lets change the conversation a little. People are not judging Fields fairly, because of one phrase, one expectation: franchise Qb.

Forget franchise QB. Ok because as soon as we say that, people think Fields has to be the next Patrick Mahomes, or he's a bust.

Can we get Fields to play something like Lamar Jackson? I think a lot more people would say yes, if we brought coaches in and built a system around him the way the Ravens built a system around Jackson, he could have similar levels of success as Jackson.

Justin Fields gets off to terrible on season

Fans: I just want Justin to show progress

Justin shows great progress with his 2 best weeks of football and QBS of 125 and 138, until breaking his thumb midway through Minnesota game

Fans: Forget the past 2 weeks of progress, lets extrapolate his 1/2 game of mediocre football before getting hurt to the rest of his fucking career.

Justin Fields is injured for several games, his come-back game against the Lions is very efficient with a QBR of 109, and has a ridiculous superstar-like 178 running yards, but late fumble and T/O kills potential gamewinning drive

Fans: I know we just said all we wanted was progress, but lets just forget all the good things he did against Detroit and focus only on the mistake he made in the clutch. We need to see him put together a game winning drive for one.

Justin Fields goes out and puts together a clutch, gamewinning drive.

Fans: Yeah forget the clutch drive, lets focus on how he almost wasnt clutch before he was clutch.

In his last 4 games, Justin Fields has a higher passer rating than -- Josh Allen, Jalen Hurts, Patrick Mahomes, Dak Prescott and Patrick Hamomes just to name a few.

Ok why cant the Fields haters give the guy credit for this: He maybe just pulled out a victory despite being concussed! It probably affected his play negatively, even the announcer noticed on the following plays that Fields was wildly inaccuraty and "looked drunk stumbling around"

So I think its very possible he was concussed, making him slower than normal in processing. But he did enough to win. He should get credit for that, for the toughness shown, instead people are ignoring the fact that there is a possibility he was playing with a concussion

Dude he's concussed. Watch the hit again, its crazy violent but also notice how Justin goes limp for a second. Then when he gets up his face is flushed. And then he literally stumbles around on a play and looks inaccurate. Like wtf guys, thats as much evidence as youre gonna get, stop hoping he's not concussed and have some concern for his long term health -- he probably is concussed so sit him. JFC

Man I have lost all respect for all the Bears coaches. Get Justin Fields out of the game!

Dude was clearly concussed, if you send him back out and he takes another hit to the head, -- thats how CTBE happens.

Its sickening to watch, is there anybody at all that cares about J Fields long term health, or has an ounce of integrity? WTF?

[–] reddit4ne@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I do NOT want to see Fields back out there. Is there any body that gives a flying cuk about this kid's health long term? He clearly sustained a concussion, its sickening that everybody is just ignoring that.

Ill give you Moore, Wright. But the rest, I dunno about.

Claypool disaster has to be mentioned. Jury's still out on Edmunds'. Still not sure letting Roquan go was smart (yeah yeah he didnt "fit" the system, but Eberflus and his system are outta here soon, sooo...)

Bagent??? What??? I mean I guess its nice we might have a mediocre backup QB, but thats not something to highligh on your resume.

Try watching the game. People who watched the whole game know Fields played well. He made most of the throws he should have. He was accurate, he threw down the field with accuracy. And he WAS the ENTIRE running game.

So there are apparently two crowds here regarding Justin Fields performance

There is the crowd that watched the WHOLE game, fromst start to finish.
And to a tee, even those who traditionally are doubtful about Justin Fields, said that Justin Fields played a very good game today and was robbed of victory.

Then there is the crowd that did not watch the whole game, , and so are left to cherry pick stats that are irrelevant or lack contecx, and point to the one lowlight (of course Fields fumble at the end) to conveniently feed a narrative and conclusion that were drawn long ago.

Its so obvious, the evidence is in the gamethread, which is markedly different from the post game thread. The whole game thread, even immediately following the last post of the game was almost 100% posts saying,"Please dont let morons that didnt watch the game try to blame Fields for this loss. He played great. This is 100% Eberflus fault, worst coaching job ever."
