if the metric is what's commercially popular, comedy has always sucked and will continue to suck until the end of time. there are a ton of people who are nationally/regionally touring who are so fucking good and you'd never know about it because the ceiling for that is basically writing for a late night show while doing sets or something

i just finished the boys. i fully considered stopping about halfway through and then i thought about the time i spent reading it already and decided to go through with it. it's engaging and keeps your attention but there were multiple points at which i was like "dude, just go write about something you like". sucks that the show went full lib because it was doing everything better than the comic
