(Tech worker here, hoping to move to the countryside next year.)

Absolutely. I probably wouldn't be doing any farming, except grow some vegetables for my own needs. But I would definitely build my own awesome local infrastructure with a server room and network cables in the walls and all that good stuff. When I retire and don't have to spend 8-10 hours a day in front of a computer at work, it'll probably be enjoyable and satisfying again to work on and maintain my own computers and stuff. Currently I rarely have the motivation or energy to do that.

And if the house is large enough I'd also make certain areas/rooms completely tech free. Like maybe a small library with only books and comfy chairs, and no wifi signal.

My favorite bug ever.

Tarn once explained it in more detail: the game's code is object oriented, and the small amount of beer on a cat's paw inherited all the variables of a full mug of beer. And the game uses a creature's body size + amount of alcohol ingested to calculate/simulate drunkenness (all the way to alcohol poisoning and death).

And during covid?

Not sure if it still exists, but I used to have an extension called "make America kittens again" or something like that. It replaced pictures of T-rump with pictures of kittens/cats. Made browsing news much more pleasant, at least visually.

Yeah, that's actually also why it's no longer considered best practice to force regular password changes. But many places / websites /apps still do, obviously.

  1. Mr. Robot
  2. Stranger Things
  3. Twin Peaks
  4. Breaking Bad
  5. Parks and Recreation
  6. LOST
  7. The Expanse
  8. Babylon 5
  9. Better Call Saul
  10. Chernobyl

List sorting is somewhat based on what impact/influence a show has had on my life. For example, Parks & Rec is an amazing show AND was a big help during a tough time in my life. On the other hand, Chernobyl is also amazing, but wasn't life changing for me personally. And LOST is great, but isn't perfect and has its flaws, but the season 3 finale is one of the most emotional experiences I've ever had in relation to a tv show or movie. So it gets a relatively high spot.

Yeah, the alcohol kills pathogens, making beer safe to drink even if your water source is bad. And it can be stored for a long time without going bad.

At some point people must have discovered that "hey, if I mix water and grains in a certain way, and wait until it stops bubbling before I drink it, then it makes me feel good AND I don't get diarrhea (or worse)!"

It's attributed to George Orwell, but when I googled it it seems that it wasn't actually him who said it... So who knows
