Liberals said the exact same shit during the civil rights movement i.e. MLK was a Russian asset and being controlled by the CCCP etc.

I'm not racist, I just think everything is a conspiracy by specifically Asian countries. Doesn't matter which. Just any country I'd see as having special magical abilities a couple centuries ago.

[–] Hello_Kitty_enjoyer@hexbear.net 20 points 1 year ago (6 children)

Russia is a white european country. The only reason they're allied with China is bc Western capitalist elites are not too racist (relative to avg crackers)--they care more for money than race. Thus, they want Russian oil and other massive Siberia resources, even if it means killing Russians

As a black American, I gotta side with fantastic-nonsense (totally inaccurate username BTW 'cause they spittin' straight fax) here.

I have been targeted by Russia to act as a disinformation agent against Biden and play a part in him losing the election. It sucks to know that libs like this user are waking up to this truth, and now I gotta deal with that.

I figured their ~~word salad~~ genius take on matters would be too enlightened for you all to understand, so I just thought I'd clear it up here and now with my firsthand experience as a certified black American Russian bot. Thank you.

I still cannot understand the “russian bots sabotaged Hillary’s election” narrative. She won the popular vote by several millions, lost the electoral college by like 10. Did the KGB invent the electoral college? Because it seemed like an ordinary election with the exception of the funny candidates

I genuinely feel like i’ve lost my mind because whenever this topic comes up, no one seems to acknowledge this. Not even people here. Am i missing something? Am I missing the big picture when I point out Hillary literally won and still lost and that tankies or bernie bros or putler bots couldnt’t sway shit? Unless they assume Hillary would’ve won 5 million more votes if the bernie bros didn’t have allegiance to russia and caused her the electoral votes? What am i missing?

[–] Rojo27@hexbear.net 29 points 1 year ago (2 children)

It's more because liberals will use the electoral college to make their point in a way. In their Russia fantasy the disinformation campaign influenced enough swing state voters to turn the electoral vote in favor of Trump.

They'll even acknowledge that the electoral college is flawed (they've been on that spiel ever since the 2000 election), but they won't ever actually make a push to reform or completely get rid of it because they also wholeheartedly believe American institutions are damn near infallible.

Yeah libs used talk about the EC, now their go to obsession is "first past the poll"/ranked choice. Every vote evangelist is flogging this as a magic bullet to save what they think is democracy

I love the irony in the cognitive dissonance:

"Everyone believes they are immune to propaganda." - Group of Redditors buying into blatant propaganda.

Yes, it's Russian propaganda that caused Hillary to lose, and not her unmasked contempt for anyone not completely adherent to neoliberal ideology. The success of the previously unknown Bernie's campaign should have been a wake up call to at least act like you could play nice with the more progressive folks. Bernie was never going to be the VP pick, but there were a handful of others that would have been at least throwing a bone to that part of the base.

Nope, she picks Tim "Pro Life" fucking Kaine, but it was Russian ops that convince those Michigan voters to pick Stein.

IMO both things are true. Yes she won the popular vote undeniably, however that doesn't excuse her disastrous campaign, most of the time Trump would not have been even close and the electoral college issue is something they as Adults In The Room^tm^ should have taken into account when propping up Trump. At this point it is all academic debate anyway, like going back and looking at what they did wrong etc.

The point is yes she won, but it should not have been that close and it wasn't an upset or unlikely result, it is now understood it was just their incompetence overall.

The same thing is happening right now too, Biden should be far more popular than Trump under almost every scenario except for the fact Dems keep making incredibly dumb decisions, almost as if they don't want to win...

[–] Droplet@hexbear.net 23 points 1 year ago

Russian hackers hacked the results so it flipped to a Trump victory instead.

Serious answer: the DNC was not in a position to admit defeat, for it would mean conceding defeat to the progressive wing led by Bernie Sanders, which was growing stronger by the day back in 2017. Hillary’s loss had to be blamed on something, or someone. Lie through the teeth if they had to, but they cannot risk having their party getting overrun by the progressives. The Russians thus became the scapegoat to this intraparty struggle in the DNC.

Just remember there is nothing to understand. It's cope. Those idiots lost a layup with a bad candidate and a surprisingly good showing from Trump.

They won't take responsibility, so it was a Russian disinfo thingy.

[–] MineDayOff@hexbear.net 62 points 1 year ago

As Matt said once before his health issues, if Russia and or China can just manipulate the people of the US with the disinformation and influence elections then they've already won. Pack it up. They got us.

[–] MolotovHalfEmpty@hexbear.net 58 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I said it then and I'll say it now...

If a handful of memes from Russian for-profit bot farms seeking Facebook ad revenue can almost topple 'the greatest democracy in the history of the world' then it ain't worth shit and you just pack it up now.

[–] Ericthescruffy@hexbear.net 37 points 1 year ago (1 children)

To add to that: if countries like Russia actually can influence US elections by manipulating platforms like Facebook....what does that say about the influence companies like Facebook have themselves?

[–] BountifulEggnog@hexbear.net 19 points 1 year ago

Private business is more powerful than American democracy?

[–] LENINSGHOSTFACEKILLA@hexbear.net 55 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I mean, there definitely were like a couple bots reposting the same comments on twitter, but that's always been the case for anything and everything.

I wish I could remember the figure, but basically the entirety of the Mueller Report came down to "yeah, we found russian meddling. They spent about 2000$ on facebook ads" and libs were like "SEE?! The russians are AtTaCkInG"

I'm reminded of this map a Blairite drew a couple years back to link Russian interference with "the black community".

[–] MolotovHalfEmpty@hexbear.net 15 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Blairite? How dare you! I'll have you know that Paul Mason is a commited communist, no wait, commited socialist, no wait, socialist realist, hang on, leftist-NAFOist with spice-taking characteristics. You can joke about his Pepe Silva enemies of the state mind map all you like, but the only three true working class white blokes he still drinks with from his Trot days thought it sounded important and I'll have you know that an admin worker for MI5 sent him a polite email saying they appriciated him sending it in but it wasn't what they were looking for and to keep trying. That's basically the same as making him the new James Bond right there! People are just bitter because he was the first to correctly identify that the best route to a worldwide socialist unity is to back Starmer and insist he immeadiately starts a nuclear war with Russia for the good of the global working glass. He might be the next foreign secretary! After all he only just missed out on getting onto one of six different 5-9 person shortlists to stand as a Labour MP in various constituancies. He's a valuable and important political operater, which is why the Labour leadership respected him too much not to beg him to please not go canvassing and campaigning in Islington North for fear that he'd make it too easy for them to get rid of Corbyn and they'd look vindictive when all they wish him is the best. And even if you're one of these too cool for school jaded fake online leftists that doesn't believe in 'electoralism' (i.e. power) then he's once again about to prove his lifelong anti-fascist credentials by putting the hard questions to our brave comrades from the Ukrainian military who spend every day of this conflict on the front lines of the defense industry convention circuit, like 'what's your favourite Putin meme' and 'what's your favourite memory from your time in Tornado Battalion?' Time to grow up, be more like him, and do some actual real political praxis.

Didn't Facebook release a study on this spooky Russian disinfornarskaya or whatever, and it turned out to have been basically a single percentage of all Trump related content?

[–] Rojo27@hexbear.net 43 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I remember several studies, all the ones done by firms that weren't getting paid by the DNC, showed that the actual impact of Russian bot farms was actually very minuscule. If you ever checked any of the linked posts that came from the bot farms you'd often see engagement often in the hundreds to low thousands. Nothing that was as widespread as the MSM reported.

Similarly for Twitter:

The emails inadvertently suggest how marginal and ineffective the accounts that were genuine Russian disinformation efforts actually were. Describing Russian accounts they’d purged in advance of voting in 2020, one internal email reports some decidedly underwhelming figures: 345 had been inactive, and the ten that were active “had little reach and low follower counts.”

[...] In fact, much of the supposedly suspicious activity had nothing to do with adversarial governments at all. The FBI repeatedly passed on suspicions and forwarded news articles alleging sinister foreign hands behind the George Floyd protests, the existence of pro-Trump African Americans, and various suspect accounts, only to be told they were all of domestic origin. One analyst “found no links to Russia,” they wrote, and neither did another worker who carried out a thorough double-check. “I can brainstorm with [redacted] and see if we can dig even deeper and try to find a stronger connection,” the analyst helpfully offers.

Wonder how it compares with the effectiveness of correct the record

[–] SacredExcrement@hexbear.net 24 points 1 year ago

Liberals would much rather demonize a huge percentage of their intended base than actually admit that they suck ass on their own merits

[–] Rojo27@hexbear.net 42 points 1 year ago (2 children)

These fucking libshits will bang on about Russian bot influencing the election and fail to address many of the real things that were happening to marginalized communities. And that's not even going into the fact that the real impact of these botfarms was minimal at best.

Libs will erase history when its convenient. They'll act as if they didn't demean the issues black and other people of color faced during the 2016 election by waving them off as "being influenced by Russian botfarms". They'll act as if they didn't act like they thought the BLM protests would cost Biden the election because it'd make people think Democrats couldn't keep the protests in their cities in line. They'll act as if they didn't blame BLM for their mediocre performance in the midterm elections.

"In that case are you going to repair the holes, or at least stop drilling more?"

I am sorry to inform you that this goes way back, several generations back, when Putin’s grandfather, Rasputin, hatched a devious plan to introduce the concept of racism into a racially harmonious America in the late 1800s.

This is a generational war between America and Russia, the battle between Light and Dark, between Good and Evil. With the Lord’s help, America shall prevail.

That one BLM Facebook group that was allegedly linked to a Russian bot farm really riled liberals up. How many Facebook users even liked or followed the page?

[–] DerRedMax@hexbear.net 23 points 1 year ago

Imagine adding the hashtag Tumblr history with full sincerity thinking you’re preserving the record and preventing the erasure of real events that mattered.

They are both partially correct

We knew about cambridge analytica in 2018, of course russia would try something similar, but the greatest success of their campaign was to turn everyone into a russian bot

Most of the somewhat attributable bot tweets were so obvious bait that they weren't even that effective, but after the discourse started, every political discussion devolved into a cpusa meeting circa red scare and mkultra

I spend some time on curatedtumblr and tumblr. 90% of the posts are nonpolitical and fine, 5% are political and lukewarm, 3% are "not voting for Biden means you literally want every single trans person in the country to die!" which is just boring at this point, and 2% are actually vaguely interesting bad takes
