I thought it was the same person.

We should edit the picture, so it looks like she is zipping up her moms dress.

My ex looked a lot like her mom. Which was awesome when I was younger, because my ex didn't smoke, and it was pretty awesome to think she would be hot forever.

Well turns out that is true, but being hot is a terrible thing to base the quality of a relationship on.

[–] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world 30 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

almost did this myself. dad sat me down and said, "Son, she's not right for you. go find yourself a nice cripple girl. she'll never walk all over you."

This wheelchair's made for ridin'
And that's just what it'll do
One of these days the wheelchair's
gonna ride all over you

As a part time wheelchair user, thanks for this idea for a song

Man, your dad gave better advice than everyone I knew.

Everyone was like "no, peoplebeproblems, if you marry her, you marry all the crazy, what does your gut say?"and I was all like "I have IBS! It's unreliable!"

[–] peoplebeproblems@midwest.social 23 points 3 weeks ago

Maybe not forever, but she still is.

My dad gave me the advice that your wife will likely look like her mother. My ex now, at 30 years looked exactly like her mom and I’m glad for reason 1001 to be divorced from her. No1 was: she’s a nasty, self centered twat who did nothing for us unless it benefited herself.

[–] Bosht@lemmy.world 8 points 3 weeks ago

Sorry to hear that man, hope things get better for you.

My mom and I are practically clones and I hate it. People compare me to her constantly and I wish I could be acknowledged as being my own person.

[–] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 39 points 3 weeks ago (4 children)

I used to recommend people shave their heads to show how different they are, but I'm told that this isn't healthy behavior.

So maybe shave your mom's head?

[–] Aussiemandeus@aussie.zone 32 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

I shaved my head and now as a 6ft bearded bald man i no longer look like my mother Thanks for the advice man

[–] rayquetzalcoatl@lemmy.world 8 points 3 weeks ago

You've got a 6ft beard???

I was worried we started our own oldschoolcool, the “wank to my ancestors” community, for a second, but they do look nearly identical. Lot of dominant genes in her mom.

[–] IndiBrony@lemmy.world 18 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

My main memory of oldschoolcool was that one time the F1 community posted a picture of Romain Grosjean from the late '00s and convinced the subreddit that it was Jean-Pierre Jabouille; a different F1 driver from the '70s. That was fun.

I love this, as a 50 year old I immediately recognize the Renault logo as post 80's (1992 from a quick search), and ING bank was formed in 1991, before that is was Postbank.

[–] TriflingToad@sh.itjust.works 16 points 3 weeks ago

genetics are so crazy to me because this is normal but like it's ALSO possible for only recessed genes coming out and the child looks nothing like the parent which is also cool AF

bit sad I didn't get my dad's 'grey hair at 14' genetics. I woulda made sooo many "respect your elders!!" jokes 🥲

I really like this!

[–] Rhaedas@fedia.io 15 points 3 weeks ago

Oh no, this is another one of those "are these dresses really the same" things.

Seriously though, that's cute.

[–] jcs@lemmy.world 12 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

The sperm must've been like "hey egg, you take all the physical traits and I'll take the mental."

[–] angrystego@lemmy.world 6 points 3 weeks ago

Or she's a clone.

[–] bluewing@lemm.ee 12 points 3 weeks ago

It would be interesting to see a picture of daddy too. I wonder what traits she got from him.

[–] Wizard_Pope@lemmy.world 10 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I look pretry much just like my dad when he was around 20. Looking at younger us not similar at all. But around 18 to 20 we look pretty much identical except the hair.

Wow! It's incredible how identical you two look.

I expected to find different content, thanks to my sleepy brain. Glad it was this

[–] paraphrand@lemmy.world 6 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Does that mean the dad/husband looks like he could be their brother? Or is that not how these genetics work?

[–] Lumiluz@slrpnk.net 19 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (1 children)

Some women essentially clone themselves or the dad.

I have a cousin, she had 5 kids, all with different dads, yet the 3 girls look exactly like the mom and the boys exactly like the dads.

And that cousin looks like her mom who looks like my grandma. But only that specific daughter of my grandma has the cloning abilities (my grandma had I think 11 kids).

Yeah, genetics is more complicated than that. Recessive genes/traits means that while half of genetic material (discounting that X an Y chromosomes are different sizes) comes from each parent, their kid's appearance is not just having all traits be midway between their parents' appearances. And there's more complications than recessive genes like epiginetics, environmental factors, multi-gene traits, etc.
