My baby girl turned 18 today and she is going for her drivers licence. Please cross your fingers and toes for a good outcome. I'll let youse know in the afternoon. TIA. 🀞

[–] TinyBreak@aussie.zone 7 points 1 week ago

Heaps of folks fail their first time on bullshit technicalities. I did, and even my driving instructor said the testers reason was complete bullshit and did my next test for free with me. Have a block of chocolate ready and some kind words just in case.

Better chance of a good outcome there than in the suburbs. Wishing her the very best of luck.

[–] SpinMeAround@aussie.zone 6 points 1 week ago

Wishing her clear roads and a smooth drive. You got this, YoungerCEO!

Update: She just missed out. She's in a good mood though and she'll give it another go in a couple of weeks. Thanks for the well wishes ❀️

[–] SpinMeAround@aussie.zone 9 points 1 week ago

Glad she hasn't let it bring her day down and now she's familiar with the test! Hooray for her giving it ago!!

[–] MeanElevator@aussie.zone 9 points 1 week ago

I made biscuits. They're not particularly pretty but they're highly delicious.

Butterscotch biscuits

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 6 points 1 week ago

Another piccy from Nepal taken from slides that no one asked for:

I'm pretty sure that's namche baazar or maybe tengboche and everest top left.

First time seeing snow. Also remember buying a mars bar in namche for $5USD which hurt. Beers at the tea houses were like $0.50c at 4000m elevation lol. As a 13yr old it was great. I was blamed by the teachers on the trip for spearheading trips to tea houses. I was just following everyone else but they didn't believe me.

[–] SpinMeAround@aussie.zone 9 points 1 week ago

I'm asking for alllll of the photos, these are glorious!! Please keep sharing and the stories! Sounds like such a cool experience.

service desk teasing security for getting locked out of their account will never not be funny to me.

[–] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 11 points 1 week ago

The man power walking through the house when he hears the garbos this morning. Priceless. The wife smugly says "I've already put it out". Priceless.

One way I can tell I'm enjoying, or at least tolerating, this new job is I've been here since January and I haven't felt the need to jump on Seek and just see what's around. That's impressive considering this is a mostly in office job, but it's close to home, the people there are chill, and I've been getting some actual results in the work I'm doing.

I was always passively looking at my old job at the more 'interesting' workplace, and same with the work form home job that sounded great on paper. I used Marketing Cloud in both of those roles and I feel like that was a big reason for me not liking both jobs.

They say people don't leave organisations, they leave managers. Maybe we should add shitty tools to the list of things people leave too.

Got 3.5 hours of sleep in the end. Got that weird dry-eye dry-throat feeling from not having slept enough... Note to self no motivation brew today after 12 noon.

[–] SpinMeAround@aussie.zone 11 points 1 week ago (9 children)

Anyone remember that guy from The Other Place who was pretty hard done by and had a bunch of kids and he and his wife found out another was on the way with, like, basically moments to go? I wonder how he's doing.

[–] dumblederp@aussie.zone 9 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

I wound up hiding that account. A bunch of people chipped in to help him with something specific and he spent the money on something else, then lined up to have another kid. Fuck's sake mate, wrap it up. Just felt they were always in a ditch and posting about all the digging they were doing to keep themselves there. e: I remember, it was "the snip" that people chipped in for.

[–] TinyBreak@aussie.zone 8 points 1 week ago

yeah i mean accidents happen but its not hard to NOT have a kid. I wouldnt thought if your backs were to the wall the last thing youd be doing is

NSWFblowing in the mrs raw.

But thats just like my opinion I guess when I had spend 30k to have a kid.

vaguely. I was a bit sus on a few details of that story, but I wasnt around all the time so totally possible I missed some details.

[–] Pilk@aussie.zone 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I was sus too but I'm ultra cynical at the best of times and have learnt to reserve my opinion, haha.

Going to treat myself to more frozen chips to air fry and some eggs.

Been a really shitty couple of days dealing with stuff, the least I can do is buy food for myself.

Fuck NAB. Time for a new bank.

Constant outages.

[–] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I left NAB as my main bank some time ago and my main bank is now Macquarie. They have great interest and allow multiple accounts with minimal fuss. However they are an online bank and don't accept cash or cheque deposits, so I generally do anything like that through the NAB transactions account and transfer it over.

I think it's a good idea to keep accounts with a few banks and have a little bit of emergency money in each one to cover you if there is an outage.

More Nepal:

One of my faves, in this village one kid got so wasted he fell into the latrine on the way back from a tea house but it was so cold it was frozen solid. We were all wasted so pulling him out was an effort. His lucky day.

This was in Kathmandu and probably the most confronting thing we saw. Funeral pyre.

ARGH. I give up, 3 hours of sleep really isn't enough to be able to force my brain to understand log transformations and regression curves all over again. I've taken hours to make some key amendments to other parts and make some notes... but once it hits 4pm I'm outta here. Try again tomorrow.

Probably also gotta accept the hit of $10 and toss out that juicy salmon fillet I bought on Saturday evening and didn't get around to making for some stupid reason (too busy making prawn curry on Sunday... too busy being a trash goblin on Monday and Tuesday). Boo. Whatever. Zzzz.

Easiest call to Centrelink ever. I messed up the date of my partner's pay, so I had to call them to update it for my report.

Super simple stuff.
