My take on this is that Jaz k is gaslighting all of us.

[–] Geetnerd@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

Don't feel bad. I'm an old straight guy, and I don't know what it means.

[–] TriflingToad@sh.itjust.works 14 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago)

the actual answer is that the curls are brushed which is essentially a minor thing that make some people feel like they're better than others, hence why the unbrushed version is the version that the guy would cheat on (worse) and the main girl is "better"

the different ideas in the comments are KILLING me though. I think the 'tight curls = tight grip on dick' theory is the funniest one

[–] nednobbins@lemm.ee 3 points 4 hours ago

Is it something about hair extensions?

I don't know what the implications of hair extensions would be.

[–] ieatpwns@lemmy.world 2 points 4 hours ago

The curls on the left look natural and fluffed up, the curls on the right look stiff and like they were done in a hurry.

[–] Phoenix3875@lemmy.world 21 points 8 hours ago
[–] random8847@lemmy.world 2 points 5 hours ago

The point is that the other girl is not that much better looking and he still cheated.

[–] Confused_Emus@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 4 hours ago

Split ends and highlights?

[–] Plum@lemmy.world 70 points 13 hours ago (3 children)

I am a biological woman. I identify as such. I don't know what the same person plus 30+ minutes with a curling iron has to do with cheating. Effort? Vanity? This is far, far beyond me somehow. I am also very old so there's that.

[–] zarkanian@sh.itjust.works 1 points 5 hours ago (2 children)

I am a biological woman. I identify as such.

Do you mean a cis woman?

Or are you trying to separate yourself from robot women?

[–] DoubleSpace@lemm.ee 2 points 2 hours ago

That's good enough for me. Congrats!

[–] nednobbins@lemm.ee 5 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

I assume she meant exactly what she said.

[–] match@pawb.social 3 points 2 hours ago

oh, no, a lot of pesticides are involved

[–] tankplanker@lemmy.world 16 points 11 hours ago (2 children)

I think you helped me crack it, i think it's saying that the person who looks like you but puts in more effort to their appearance on the regular is more attractive. That makes sense to me, and would be true in the main for most people, it's one of the most common things said to people who are struggling to find partners.

You could take negative connotations from that about that person being vain but really it should be on the cheater for being a fucking cheater.

[–] garbagebagel@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago

I agree with you, but don't like that the interpretation puts the onus on the person being cheated on. Like, people will cheat even if they're with the most gorgeous, totally out of their league person. Cheating has nothing to do with how attractive or how attentive to themselves your partner is. If you're a cheater, you're gonna be a cheater.

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 5 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

puts in more effort to their appearance on the regular

Nah. My wife has naturally wavy hair. She goes to work with it blow-dried, flattened, and a little plain-looking. On weekends she does none of those things, and it looks gorgeous and wavy and bouncy. Maybe I just have a definite preference -- Even Jen Psaki on the TV - gorgeous already - looks better in her other, more natural style, and she's probably got advisors telling her to vamp it up.

A Republican who secretly loves but public ally has to hate Jen Psaki

[–] pewpew@feddit.it 1 points 8 hours ago

Probably personality?

[–] themeatbridge@lemmy.world 84 points 14 hours ago (2 children)

Ok, as a man, I can see that these are two different hairstyles. Visually, it's obviously the same person but with slightly different configurations of hair. Where I'm lost is that this meme seems to imply that one is better than the other. Which is the superior look? I don't know. That doesn't mean I cannot differentiate between the two, it means I am out of touch with whatever is stylish at the moment. There's nothing objectively more or less beautiful in these photos. Maybe one style is easier to maintain, and the difference is supposed to sugest that one of them takes better care of their hair? Or maybe they are too fussy and vain to a fault? This is specialized knowledge that can only be shared via communication. You cannot discover it on your own like some scientific truth. You must learn it from someone else who knows.

The people who are snarky about people not knowing something like this are the worst sort of snobs. Not only are they mocking people who haven't been included in the secret, they are wasting an opportunity to share knowledge to do it.

[–] Zagorath@aussie.zone 53 points 13 hours ago (2 children)

My read of the meme was that the similarity is the point. "You vs the girl he cheats with", if one was significantly more attractive than the other would probably imply that it's the woman's fault for not being more attractive. But by showing them both basically the same, the message is "if he's a cheater, he's gonna cheat, no matter what you do. It's on him."

But maybe I'm putting too much thought into it.

[–] themeatbridge@lemmy.world 35 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

That's an interesting take. So basically a cheater isn't being drawn into anything because of a specific desirable trait that you lack, it's just that he's a piece of shit who wants to cheat.

[–] timewarp@lemmy.world 8 points 13 hours ago

Yeah... But brain rot will have you believe if they cheat, you need to attack the person they cheated on you with.

[–] noseatbelt@lemmy.ca 3 points 11 hours ago

Yes the point is that they're similar, but with the added layer that you're supposed to prefer the left because it looks more natural whereas the right looks like they tried too hard to achieve the same look and failed.

[–] undefinedValue@programming.dev 23 points 13 hours ago

Hah, this guy doesn’t get it

[–] essell@lemmy.world 33 points 14 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago) (1 children)

I suspect the hidden meaning is that guys apparently cheat on people who are fundamentally no different to the person they're cheating on.

The implication being that guys cheat for the sake of it, rather than because there's a difference in the person they're with.

For clarity, I'm not saying I believe any of that. I think it sounds like utter nonsense. No doubt it's true for some people, but I think applying it to a wider group isn't very reasonable.

[–] angrystego@lemmy.world 2 points 8 hours ago

Well, people do tend to have a type, right?

[–] HikingVet@lemmy.ca 30 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

What in the Victorian over complicated aristocracy social rules is this bullshit?

[–] PotatoLibre@feddit.it 3 points 12 hours ago (2 children)

I feel like it doesn't mean anything, it's just trolling.

[–] Kusimulkku@lemm.ee 1 points 2 hours ago

I thought it just meant the person they cheat with is very similar so the cheating is even stupider

No clue.
But it looks better on the left imo.

[–] sheepishly@fedia.io 7 points 11 hours ago

I'm a woman and I don't understand this My immediate thought is something about the tighter curls on the right implying she has a tighter grip on his dick

[–] ICastFist@programming.dev 10 points 14 hours ago (2 children)

I won't even pretend I know where to begin. Same girl, different hairstyle, that's all I can gather, no clue on possible hidden meanings

[–] Ilovethebomb@lemm.ee 1 points 3 hours ago

I wouldn't even register these as different hair styles.

Maybe it's boys cheat with women similar to their actual girlfriend?

[–] angrystego@lemmy.world 3 points 8 hours ago

That actually sounds logical.

[–] MadMadBunny@lemmy.ca 6 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago)

He will cheat with a cheaper-looking, tackier wannabe of the girlfriend/spouse.

The cheaper tackier girl had to try emulate the look of the original in order to attempt to be on the same league, which she’s never be.

Since he’s not cheating with a "better version" of yourself, it’s a bit reassuring for a woman’s ego; it’s just "sex" and he’s not gonna leave you for that slut.

The man’s still a stupid idiot for cheating though.

[–] NONE_dc@lemmy.world 6 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

I'm betting that in the image on the right she's wearing hair extensions.

[–] Haus@kbin.earth 3 points 13 hours ago

There does seem to be a lot of hushed discussion about hair extensions.

[–] thoughtfuldragon@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 14 hours ago (2 children)

I think it's the tightness of the curls

[–] molotov@feddit.org 4 points 14 hours ago (1 children)
[–] thoughtfuldragon@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

It's the same person at different stages of styling. They're both the same level of artificial/natural, however you measure that.

[–] N0t_5ure@lemmy.world 2 points 12 hours ago

I saw this a while ago on reddit, and the explanation in the comments was something about brushing the curls out for a more "natural" look, with the one on the right being worse for not doing it.

[–] CidVicious@sh.itjust.works 4 points 13 hours ago

I dunno anything about styling longer hair, but I'm going to guess that the tighter curls on the right look less messy. But it does seem like a pretty toxic attitude displayed.

[–] TomMasz@lemmy.world 4 points 14 hours ago

I'm not gay and I do see a slight difference between the two, but the difference is pretty minimal IMHO. What this person sees, I have no clue. It's significant for them, though.

[–] CobblerScholar@lemmy.world 4 points 14 hours ago

Looks like natural curl pattern vs manually hand twisted curls maybe?

[–] atro_city@fedia.io 3 points 13 hours ago

The joke is for the in group and we're not in it.

[–] Phineaz@feddit.org 3 points 14 hours ago

I assumed that "he" is cheating on his partner with this girl. Like, it's the same person, because this is the person he's having an affair with.
