My keys go in the pocket with the item they can damage the most whether I want it or not.

Phone front left Keys and wallet front right
I have a slimline wallet and a clamshell phone.
Hmmm... Left handed? I have the same setup, but on the opposite sides (thick wallet, but it fits, and I don't care how it looks).
+ right back pocket for important stuff (tissues, paper tickets, notes), left back for rubbish.
Nope, right pocket for keys because I usually hold the dog on the left when carrying him out to pee. It lets me lock the door easily while holding the dog.
Front left: Keys, wallet
Front right: Phone
Back left: Use prohibited. Only use in case of emergency
Back right: Use prohibited. Only use in case of emergency
In case I need to carry by foot: A sling bag (volume about 5L) which is enough for city trips and holds a power bank, a charging kit (powerbank + chord), a cotton bag and sunglasses
In case I need to carry more by foot: A backpack
In case by bike: A bike pack that goes on the bicycle rack
I wear jeans with two pockets. The left pocket contains my wallet and keys, the right pocket contains my phone. I also carry a small backpack with miscellaneous things (umbrella, extra battery and phone charger, medicine, etc).
Left front pocket: Phone.
Right front pocket: Cigarettes, keys
Right front coin pocket: Lighter, knife.
Back right: Wallet
Back left: Doggie waste bags.
If I have cargo pants or a bag ir whatever, it's to carry things I don't normally carry or to just keep warm in the case of a jacket.
2 pockets, chillin: Right: phone, small knife Left: auxiliary ie; pliers, tissue, something my kid handed me wallet if going out.
4/5 pocket: Right: phone, small knife Left: knipex 4" cobra head, piece of hardware, Back left: wallet Back right: small knife Leg pocket: pen/ sharpie sometimes a tool.
Cargo: Same as top Left cargo: pocket Joe's, small amount of assorted screws and small hardware. Right cargo: pens and such on the outside pocket, probably trash, and bigger knife depending on where I am and what I'm doing. sometimes a tool.
- Left front: keys, beeswax lip balm, contact lens eyedrops
- Right front: phone
- Left rear: alcohol cleaning swabs, needlenose pliers
- Right rear: wallet
- Left cargo: device failure "toe tags", work phone
- Right cargo: work keys, microfiber cloth
- Right "cell phone pocket": bit driver with ~6 bits in the handle
- Shirt collar: mini phillips/flathead screwdriver, pen
- Shoulder bag: laptop, flash/external drives, power bank, chargers, cables, and adapters
- Jacket: gloves & lighter right pocket, foldable earmuffs left pocket, mini cigars inside pocket
Two pockets is pretty much only a swimsuit, lol. I skip all the work stuff and mostly stick with phone and wallet/keys. Is it weird that even at max, I don't carry a knife of any kind? I find the mini screwdriver works for most situations...
Phone in left front, wallet in front right, keys split between two.
Nice try, local pickpocket.
Nice try, FBI.
Ha ha, well-played Jeff, you got us.
Front pocket if my pants come with any (they often don’t). Cardigan pocket otherwise.
Phone in right front, keys in left front, wallet in back right. If there's only two pockets, keys and wallet go together in left pocket. If I have a bag I might toss my keys in it but I probably won't. If I'm wearing a jacket or coat then the keys and phone will probably end up in the left and right pockets, respectively, but I will still reflexively try to find them in my pants pockets and then go "oh wait, right."
Nice try, pickpocket. Nice try...
So many doing front left for phone, that's just weird to me unless you're left handed.
Front Right: Phone
Back Left: Flattened & folded plastic shopping bag(s)
Back Right: Wallet
Belt Hooks: Keys
Front left is the 'all the other shit' pocket. Currently this contains:
- 6 flash drives totalling around 500GB
- Lighter
- £4.25 in loose change
- Flipper 0
- Trolley token
- Multitool with knife, needle, pen, tweezers, ruler, magnet, cross driver
- 3 dog shit bags (empty)
I'm guessing it's so the phone doesn't interfere with a weapon
Not weird at all. I reach into my left pocket for my phone with my left hand and am ready to operate it with my right hand. Having it in my right pocket would be awkward.
Is your phone a zweihänder or something? I think the last time I reliably used a phone with both hands was back in the days of tapping out texts on a keypad in T9. Needed both thumbs for decent wpm.
Or I'm misreading and it'd get in the way of something else?
Right seems right for me, in both pocket and operation. Whatever works though, at the end of the day :)
I don't usually take my wallet with me since most things are on my phone now, but if I need to it goes in my back right pocket unless I'm sitting down. My phone goes in my right pocket and my keys go in my left.
If I'm wearing cargo pants I might put my wallet in a lower pocket. I should get cargo pants.
Shoulder bag, everything goes in the bag except my phone (unless I'm doing something where I shouldn't be looking at my phone, then it also goes in the bag.
Two pockets, my wallet would go in my left pocket with my keys.
Jacket doesn't affect where things go, jacket pockets are for my hands. Although sometimes when wearing my hoodie my phone goes in the hoodie pocket.
Women don't usually get pockets so everything goes in my bag. But tbh the bag helps my adhd as well, if I always keep everything in the bag I won't lose it or forget where I put it.
front left is phone
front right is keys, weapons, 2nd phone, and wallet if no back pocket's available
back right is wallet, important papers if they fit
back left is extra napkins if a restaurant gives me too many, face mask if I'm not wearing, maybe some other crap depending
that itty bitty pocket above the right pocket is mostly for found paper clips, found hair ties, loose change, lapel pins, or loose tacks that need for a different pinboard
I don't use back left pocket for anything and my pants show it.
Nice try, pickpocket!
My jeans very rarely have actual pockets, so sometimes they have a back pocket for transporting my phone small distances, but if I'm going out it all goes in my handbag.
In order...
- back right
- front right
- front left
If I'm wearing a coat, keys might go in the right coat pocket.
Phone left front.
Wallet goes in right cargo pocket or front right for jeans and slacks.
Keys in right front by default. When going to work they go in the backpack and in winter I put them in a zipped coat pocket on the left so they don't end up under the seat belt.
Back pockets are usually empty because I don't like sitting on things. Sometimes I put paper stuff back there like receipts or notes.
I started carrying a sling bag with me everywhere now. So everything goes there except my phone which I keep in my front left pocket.
Keys somewhere right, phone in the pocket inside my jacket, rest wherever.
Left trouser pocket:
- phone (moved to left pocket of fleece jacket if worn)
- paper towel
- bike keys if at work
Right trouser pocket:
- keys (attached by string to an ID card hanging from a belt loop if at work)
Right leg pocket if at work:
- hand sanitizer, sometimes 2 bottles
Edge of shirt collar:
- 1-2 ballpoint pens hanging inside shirt
I can't stand anything on my pockets anymore. Everything goes to the backpack, or purse/fanny pack. I saw a guy in a rave with a chest fanny pack and I'm curious about them.
I own one pair of jeans and on the rare occasion that I'm wearing them I'm not going to have anything in my pockets.
When I'm at work in my work gear my phone goes in my right pocket on my thigh wallet in the same pocket on the left,
Keys if I take them from the car go in the left regular pocket.
Pen and paint markers and ruler in left breat pocket.
In shorts phone in right wallet left keys left if I have them.
I used to keep my phone in my right breast pocket when working but as phones got bigger I stopped being able to button it up, this led to me bending over and dropping my phones a lot.
One time I did this twice left it on the ground the second time working in a paddock by myself,
Proceded to get my hand stuck and unable to reach the phone to call for help and had to stand there for 20 minutes until someone found me.
My phone is in my left pocket, my wallet in my right pocket, my keys are hooked on my belt and I have a handkerchief in my right backpocket. When I'm wearing cargo pants the handkerchief goes in one of the cargo pockets, the rest stays the same.
Are you me? I do the same!
Am I you or are you me?
Front right
- Pocket knife
- Earbuds
- Keys
Front left
- Phone
- Vape
Rear right
- Wallet
Rear left
- Free Parking
For two-pocket pants, the wallet goes in the front left.
Phone in one pocket, keys and wallet share a pocket.
It doesn't matter if I am in cargo shorts or have a jacket with pockets.
Knife, keys, and pen go into left pocket, phone goes into right pocket, wallet goes into back right or right cargo pocket depending on what I'm wearing.
Bags and jackets don't change the base config, they just allow for more stuff. The exception is motorbike gear - then things move to the jacket pockets for comfort/accessibility.
I don't have the issue of only having two pockets because I simply don't buy regular pants/shorts with such a poor pocket selection.
Right rear, handkerchief.
Right front, phone.
Right front inset, wedding ring and Aldi quarter.
Left front, keys & cards, formerly also hairties.
Left rear, left empty and used to carry garbage until I find a trashcan.
(If I'm wearing shorts without rear pockets, the handkerchief goes in with the phone.)
Respect for the aldi quarter
Why do you have your wedding ring in a pocket?
Because I take it off to wash dishes and touch-type, and it beats leaving it on desks and countertops.
I always wear cargo shorts or pants when not home. Wranglers with the "tech pocket" meant for a phone.
Left front - phone, Pixel 6a with GrapheneOS. I used to carry it in the tech pocket but it's too easy for a thief to grab.
Right front - house keys. On a suspension clip is the car key.
Left rear - a folding box cutter, has it's own pocket clip.
Right rear - Gerber Dime on a suspension clip
Left cargo pocket - two small hand sanitizer bottles. One contains unscented soap because I can't stand the perfume infused garbage in public washrooms.
Right cargo - Wallet and coin organizer.
I can't stand having things in my pocket for the most part so I have a small shoulder bag that hold my wallet and keys. My phone goes in my pocket if I am walking around but on my desk or table if I'm sitting. The only thing that remains inside and that's because it goes into the tiny pocket are my airpods because I can't really notice them.
Front right phone
Front right tiny pocket, headphones
Front left cigarettes and lighter
Rear right wallet
- I don’t wear cargo pants. Nobody should.
- if I’m wearing a shoulder bag, it’s because I’m carrying stuff other than what is already in my pockets. Like my water bottle and my laptop.
- I don’t wear things with only two pockets.
- if I’m wearing a jacket, it’s because it’s cold out, not because I need extra pockets
I distinctly remember a time around when smartphones were becoming commonplace, when I swapped my left and right pocket contents because I started needing to grab my phone a lot more often.
