Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

I went to restock on my pitstick and I struggled to find it due to the redesign

I couldn't help but laugh when I saw it as it now looks so damn similar to one of friend's suits

I like (and exclusively use) this one, but it's damn expensive.

[–] Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 6 hours ago

Likewise

Good news is that we don't have to buy it very often at least

[–] DagwoodIII@piefed.social 61 points 3 days ago (10 children)

Women's products have scents like 'lavender' and 'peach.'

Men's have names like 'wolf thorn' and 'black ice.'

[–] yakko@feddit.uk 51 points 3 days ago (4 children)

I once had a deodorant whose scent was "trench warfare". Gave me a little chuckle every time. I think my current scent is "Livid Monarchism" or something. Lavender is nice too though.

[–] Thiccbear@aussie.zone 30 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Uhhh that gun powder, piss and death scent 🥵

/s

Don't forget the sweet but savory smell of mustard gas

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 6 points 2 days ago

I get that after eating a hot pastrami sandwich.

[–] saltnotsugar@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago

I have a facial cream "for men", the sales pitch was how it shields your skin when braving sharp winds and weather xD

[–] naeap@sopuli.xyz 10 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I'm pretty sure you could sell bubbly baths to men, just by arguing about the heat insulation of the foam and how much more effective it is to keep the water warm

Cool, I'm going to need way more abstraction and euphemism to shelter the tissue of masculinity I cloak myself in though 😎

I accidentally bought a bodywash that's apparently 50% menthol. It smells like cough syrup

[–] vithigar@lemmy.ca 8 points 3 days ago (1 children)

"Wolfthorn" is orange, lychee, coconut, and pineapple. At least according to my search just now.

[–] DagwoodIII@piefed.social 7 points 3 days ago

I mean, it has to smell like something.

Missed opportunity to use citrussy ;)

[–] ChaoticNeutralCzech@feddit.org 11 points 3 days ago

They see "24/7" on the packaging and only use it once per week.

I… just want unscented deodorant, and the one brand I’ve been buying since high school seems to be trying to kill the unscented line because only one store around me carries it anymore. And none of the other common brands have an unscented variety around.

I guess I’ll switch to the lavender if I have to.

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 22 points 3 days ago (4 children)

When my dad found out the aftershave he used since high school was being discontinued he bought two cases of it.

That was about 15 years ago and he’s only halfway through the first case.

I’m probably going to inherit a lot of it. Sadly I don’t shave.

Life pro tip: Use a block of alum.. It's competely unscented. Just gotta wet it a bit before use.

[–] SoleInvictus@lemmy.blahaj.zone 8 points 2 days ago (2 children)

And lasts for ages. You can also use it to stop bleeding, though it STINGS.

[–] toynbee@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

This is what I did back when I shaved.

I didn't realize it could also function as deodorant or antiperspirant, that's cool.

[–] SoleInvictus@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yeah, alum, usually potassium alum, is just a solid block of one of the ingredients used in antiperspirants to plugs up sweat glands to keep you from sweating as much. That's partially how it works as a styptic - it's irritating, so blood vessels will contract, but it also just plugs up some of the smallest vessels. Its use was much more common before the widespread adoption of electric razors, even if just as a little styptic pencil.

Yes, I'm one of those hobby shaving people.

This stuff is like 3USD, idk if you can get it in the US, but I put it on after showering, before bed, and it works the next day.

As someone who gives less fucks with each passing day, I fuck with Scentbird. After decades of masculinity and musk, I now combine those with florals, feminine perfumes, and shit.

I've gotten more positive feedback from the moms at school pickup, than I ever did just wearing cologne. Like standing there at the edge of the group, "what's that smell? It's kinda floral but not just that? That's amazing!" chatter, and I gave them my wrist to check, and confirmed.

Wasn't this the point of CK One?

[–] QuinnyCoded@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 days ago

most people LOVE a man with some femininity in them

[–] Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 2 days ago (1 children)

NGL finding deodorant that doesn't smell awful is kinda hard for me. My sense of smell is easily my most sensitive sense which makes a lot of things really overwhelming. (So many new things I buy need to be left to air out for a day or more before I can use them)

Especially if it's marketed to men. So many men's products have smells like "Smoke, tobacco, whisky, etc" and I'm just sitting here going "I don't want to smell like shit, I wanna smell nice"

This one though IMO is one of my favorites, it smells nice and fruity and it's not over powering. It's subtle.

And it plays really nicely with my shampoo and body wash.

Wolfthorn is straight up delicious.

There was one time, specifically, I'd lied down for bed, post shower, arms raised fully above my head, arched back, presenting, and I thought to myself, "what thE FUCK SMELLS So good?!" And it was me. And it was a great feeling. It was citrus.

[–] SoleInvictus@lemmy.blahaj.zone 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Fuck yeah, rock it. I am a naturally very manly smelling person, sometimes to my dismay, so I always stayed with scents that "matched": cedar, sandalwood, rosemary, juniper, bergamot, and the like. I often smelled like a lumber mill or a very conversational pot roast.

I got a scent sampler pack from Boy Smells a bit ago and I get so many compliments from others when I wear them.

[–] HerbalGamer@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

conversational pot roast.

I wanna see that OldSpice

Pot roast smell, just musk and a little rosemary essential oil, was my single times secret weapon. People asking about it was a zero effort conversation starter and it dovetails perfectly with my style of attempts to be charming.

[–] malle_yeno@pawb.social 18 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Dont be shy, post the friend's suit 👀

[–] Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone 17 points 2 days ago (1 children)

When I asked them if I could share a picture of their suit they said they'd prefer if I didn't, so unfortunately I can't share any pics of it.

They've only had it now for a little less than a year so I understand why they're a bit cagey about sharing pictures of it out of context

[–] malle_yeno@pawb.social 8 points 2 days ago

That's so valid, hope they have a great time with it!

Stupid Manly Man name, but it's the best scent - really sweet and fruity like Sweet Tarts candy.

Old spice looks tasty :3
