3 weeks later: honey, did you know that Frank next door is only 47.6 degrees? That's weird.

Cats have a higher thermal neutral than humans. So if you are comfortable, your cat is likely a little cold. Make sure they have a warm place to lay, heating pad, sunny spot, under some blankets.

Wait, thermal cameras have become reasonably priced gifts? Or is this some rich people shit

[–] filcuk@lemmy.zip 2 points 8 hours ago

I got a brand new one for a hundo

[–] Rolive@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

You can get a decent one for about 250 euros like the Infiray P2 Pro.

It was in the 1000s a few years ago. That was "professional level", not "rich people shit", because it can be a useful investment.
Now, it's "enthusiast level; affordable enough for interested people to play around with it, and cheap enough that you can let it rot in a drawer after losing interest.
What you want is probably "cheap e-waste" level.

[–] Robust_Mirror@aussie.zone 9 points 14 hours ago (2 children)

I would call that enthusiast level rather than rich person. It's not more than a decent drone or camera or many other technology hobbies. Less than half the price of a ps5 or meta quest 3.

Sure, you could argue it probably has less function and replay value than those. But it's still not ludicrously expensive if you REALLY want it.

[–] greenbit@lemmy.zip 2 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

How much use cases would those have? Like it seems like a tool but you gotta use something like a same priced power tool quite a lot to make it worth the price

[–] Lokoschade@feddit.org 2 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

I'm watching someone on YouTube renovating an old house and they use it to make out places that leak heat and need better insulation.

[–] greenbit@lemmy.zip 1 points 5 hours ago

For renovating many buildings it does seem like a no-brainer purchase

[–] Magnum 3 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Do you think the husband REALLY wanted it and that's why he waited for his wife to gift it to him?

[–] Robust_Mirror@aussie.zone 1 points 34 minutes ago

I have a crap ton of things I really want but would never choose to spend the money on myself and wait for it as a gift. That's basically the entire point of gifts imo, getting things you want but can't justify spending the money on.

[–] foggianism@lemmy.world 3 points 17 hours ago

Damn 94 degrees AND tail lifted

[–] sp3ctr4l@lemmy.dbzer0.com 16 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Husband now has fart-o-vision, expect some chores to not get done.

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Prepare for your husband to film his own ass a good bit.

[–] sp3ctr4l@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 1 day ago* (last edited 11 hours ago)

... either he's gonna be that flexible, or he's going to giggle for half a day and not tell you the results of 'can a thermal camera pointed at a mirror see a fart?'

... my money is on 'not really'.

It does seem so. Cats' internal temp is a bit warmer than ours - like 101 or 102F. Lots of blood vessels near the surface in a butthole, so it's warmer than most other areas, though would expect it to be slightly cooler than internal. Not 8 degrees cooler though.

[–] psud@aussie.zone 15 points 19 hours ago

101 or 102

38°

[–] Wildmimic@anarchist.nexus 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Human external skin temp is around 32°C on the hands, so i'd say 34,6°C for the cats butthole sounds about right

[–] Asfalttikyntaja@sopuli.xyz 5 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

You mean, you can warm up your finger in the cat’s butthole?

[–] Wildmimic@anarchist.nexus 9 points 15 hours ago

only by 2 degrees, i don't think it's worth the blood loss

[–] errer@lemmy.world 48 points 1 day ago (1 children)

That’s the cat’s weak spot, you can only attack it during certain moments in the boss fight

[–] Fedizen@lemmy.world 20 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

That's because it only shows its butt after you've earned its trust. Its a very long boss fight.

[–] Lemminary@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

The final boss has decided to nap on my lap. Now would be a great time to reach for the sword but I'm incapable of moving. I'm losing this battle, help!

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 25 points 1 day ago (2 children)

"i got you a thermal camera"

cool

"what have you checked with it"

oh you know things

"what kind of things?"

you know, walls, pets, the grill. normal stuff. ...why?

"...no reason"

[–] Almacca@aussie.zone 2 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago)

I will always watch that entire video every time someone links it, and probably rewatch a few others of his.

Thermal Exhaust Port

[–] Dojan@pawb.social 44 points 1 day ago (1 children)

This is what science is for.

We choose to scan the cat's butthole not because it is easy, but because it is hilarious.

[–] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 35 points 1 day ago (1 children)

"How did we ever survive without this?"

Reverse dragon: fire comes out of its butt

[–] UltraMagnus0001@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Emmmm, buttskin hotter than pussy fur

[–] DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world 3 points 23 hours ago

I'm glad to see technology used in the pursuit of important science.

[–] yucandu@lemmy.world 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I think Tool wrote a song about that.

Certainly an improvement over the usual way of telling its temperature.

[–] InvalidName2@lemmy.zip 6 points 1 day ago

I said what, what kitty butt. I said what, what kitty butt.
