I'm surrounded by them here in the south and i have zero sympathy for them. Many of their business's are starting to slow or fail and i can only laugh at them.

In the south people choose their political party at birth and treat it like a sports team that they REFUSE to ever give up on. Self destruction is one of their favorite past times.

Goldwater and Nixon's "Southern Strategy" has been paying dividends for Republicans for 60 years

[–] bytesonbike@discuss.online 9 points 6 days ago (2 children)

My cousins live in the south. They chose that area because, in their words, it's "expensive" where I live.

Last week, they vented about the housing prices and groceries. Their house market is now the same price as the housing in my "expensive" area. But their area also has federal min wage at $7.25 an hour. Where my city is double.

This is their main issue. They always complained about paying property taxes in New York or some other northern state, but then also complain about the cost of housing, driving distances, car prices, and insurance. You also have to deal with politicians taking away your rights and passing shitty laws constantly that hurt you. So glad i don't work retail anymore, hated hearing them complain about that crap.

Did they vote for Trump?

[–] phoenixarise@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

These are some of the worst people you will ever come across. I hope it gets worse for them.

[–] zd9@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

and only them. Unfortunately, we all have to be brought down by their hateful stupidity.

[–] BeardededSquidward@lemmy.blahaj.zone 12 points 6 days ago (1 children)

The people around here are so stupid. I talk about moving to MA or another North Eastern state and they're like "The cost of living is so high there!" Yeah, it might be, but MA has some of the most progressive social safety nets and policies in the USA. The only thing I take grievances with are their restrictive gun laws. Other than that, no, MA looks far better than a shit stain red state I live in.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 3 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Yeah, it might be, but MA has some of the most progressive social safety nets and policies in the USA.

Like, not to knock MA, but your mileage really varies based on which neighborhood you're in. The closer you come to NH, the worse things get. And Boston varies heavily by zip code, based on the prevailing income bracket.

Is the state better than West Virginia or Idaho or South Dakota? Sure. But its not some kind of paradise. You're still in a heavily privatized and financialized capitalist hell-hole. You just live closer to the money, and that's where we put all our nice things.

Yeah, know there's variation even with where I live. Fair enough though, just that it'd be nice to have better job access than I do now. As well as generally better social safety nets. Had a friend be let go from a position in the area and while it took a while, his unemployment was like 80-90% of his income. Here, 40% is the best you get. The states I live in or nearby rely on a revolution of unemployment and employment for many people.

Think how much it'll keep rising when he's fighting simultaneous wars in Venezuela, Greenland, Cuba and Mexico.

i knew it would be in the article at some point:

Yet Todd still says: “I voted for Trump. I don’t regret that. We’re God-fearing, conservative people.”

troompa loompas could literally be starving in the street, their whole family dying of polio or some other shit we thought we got rid of, and they'll still sing the praises of the one who directly caused all their problems. because jesus, guns, and get rid of the brown people

[–] leftascenter@jlai.lu 73 points 1 week ago

Worst part is a modern US Jesus would be all eat-the-rich anti-establishment, founder of a commune (or several as he travels), and get killed "by accident" in an ICE raid.

Remember the Hermain Cain Award subreddit?

Hundreds of documented cases of people vehemently refusing real treatment for a 'fake' disease, being immensely cocky and belligerent untill very nearly the end, and then, near the end... still somewhere between defiant, in denial, and delusional.

... Those are the private citizens in the US with the vast majority of the guns.

You are completely correct, many areas of the US will collapse into pockets of highly armed, highly religious cults, utterly bereft of anything resembling logic, beyond the sociopathic logic of how to run a cult.

Basically, a couple of David Koresh's for every county. Good luck!

And that quote is why I laugh at these fucking idiots. I genuinely do not have the capacity to empathize with people who are so idiotically and uncritically dogmatic.

Anybody who says "we're a God fearing family" should be immediately locked up.

Firstly because it's a meaningless platitude that doesn't actually make sense, and secondly because it actually means ";-) I'm a Nazi, but obviously I would get offended if you ever actually called me out on it".

No nice person has ever said that.

Unfortunately those of us who voted against him can't afford it either.

[–] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 39 points 1 week ago

Have the day you voted for, morons!

People who voted against this shit (and no, third party doesn't count) have my fullest sympathy, of course

[–] HazardousBanjo@lemmy.world 36 points 1 week ago

AND THEY STILL SUPPORT HIS STUPID FUCKING ORANGE ASS

[–] ramsgrl909@lemmy.world 34 points 1 week ago (13 children)

I moved to rural America after living in the city. I just don't understand why so many farmers have trump signs still up, it's been a really tough year for farmers and he's not helped them one bit

[–] boaratio@lemmy.world 38 points 1 week ago (3 children)

I also moved to a rural area after living in a city for 20 years, and there is a guy that lives near me that is a farmer and he has a giant hand made sign in his lawn that says "Unvaxed sperm is the next Bitcoin." You just can't underestimate how stupid people are. They'll be nice to you in person and then just butt chug newsmax and racist Facebook memes.

They just announced on the news that the oil companies are already using the Venezuela Invasion as an excuse to raise prices. Expect an expensive 2026, and tell them what you think of it in November.

No shit. Prices just went up to pay for an illegal overtaking of another country's assets to satisfy already filthy rich oil barons at taxpayers expense. Wheeeeee!

I always call them out when i can on social media, but they report my comment as misinformation and they get removed.

It's about time to start putting up the "I did that stickers" all over the place like MAGA did with Biden.

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 23 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

They’re getting everything they voted for. I’m happy for hem! Congratulations you did it. Great job!
