Exactly as intended by the administration. All governmental bodies will be made subservient to the great leader through installing purposely incompetent and bad faith loyalists and sycophants. This should not be a surprise at this point, it should fill us all with righteous anger.
Pretty much exactly this. You stick useless people in these important roles so they can't get enough traction to try for your chair, but you also want people who are at least smart enough to do whatever you tell them to do. Patel is actually a smart pick, he's just too dumb to know how to push around actual field agents and only knows how to push around analysts and media.

No offense to the Guthrie family but it was pretty clear that local LE and the FBI don't give a shit when it was weeks later that they asked people to send outdoor camera vids and even more clear when the local delivery driver was their only suspect after that.
really makes you think how valuable teh surveillance state can actually be making a case against Luigi Mangione when it can't find a an old lady whose family is cooperating
She should've tried hanging out in a McDonalds with all the "evidence" needed to make a case on the abductor and a note explaining the night's events
