Rules (2024-08-30)

  1. This is an English-language community. Comments should be in English. Posts can link to non-English news sources when providing a full-text translation in the post description. Automated translations are fine, as long as they don't overly distort the content.
  2. No links to misinformation or commercial advertising. When you post outdated/historic articles, add the year of publication to the post title. Infographics must include a source and a year of creation; if possible, also provide a link to the source.
  3. Be kind to each other, and argue in good faith. Don't post direct insults nor disrespectful and condescending comments. Don't troll nor incite hatred. Don't look for novel argumentation strategies at Wikipedia's List of fallacies.
  4. No bigotry, sexism, racism, antisemitism, islamophobia, dehumanization of minorities, or glorification of National Socialism. We follow German law; don't question the statehood of Israel.
  5. Be the signal, not the noise: Strive to post insightful comments. Add "/s" when you're being sarcastic (and don't use it to break rule no. 3).
  6. If you link to paywalled information, please provide also a link to a freely available archived version. Alternatively, try to find a different source.
  7. Light-hearted content, memes, and posts about your European everyday belong in other communities.
  8. Don't evade bans. If we notice ban evasion, that will result in a permanent ban for all the accounts we can associate with you.
  9. No posts linking to speculative reporting about ongoing events with unclear backgrounds. Please wait at least 12 hours. (E.g., do not post breathless reporting on an ongoing terror attack.)
  10. Always provide context with posts: Don't post uncontextualized images or videos, and don't start discussions without giving some context first.

(This list may get expanded as necessary.)

Posts that link to the following sources will be removed

Unless they're the only sources, please also avoid The Sun, Daily Mail, any "thinktank" type organization, and non-Lemmy social media (incl. Substack). Don't link to Twitter directly, instead use xcancel.com. For Reddit, use old:reddit:com

(Lists may get expanded as necessary.)

Ban lengths, etc.

We will use some leeway to decide whether to remove a comment.

If need be, there are also bans: 3 days for lighter offenses, 7 or 14 days for bigger offenses, and permanent bans for people who don't show any willingness to participate productively. If we think the ban reason is obvious, we may not specifically write to you.

If you want to protest a removal or ban, feel free to write privately to the primary mod account @EuroMod@feddit.org

I love how the two most villainous people in the world - Trump and Putin - both have names that are synonymous with farts.

[–] jenesaisquoi@feddit.org 9 points 1 week ago (2 children)

But pootin' is trumpin'

[–] Ash@piefed.social 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yes but Putin rhymes with Tootin.

That's Sophie Chikirou of La France Insoumise (LFI), the leading French left-wing populist party. Apparently, she's also in a relation with the party's founder and long-term leader Jean-Luc MΓ©lenchon, so also quite 'prominent'.

Most left-wing populist parties in Europe are financed by Russia while most right-wing populist parties are financed by Russia.

[–] ChairmanMeow@programming.dev 12 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Anything extreme or radical typically is, it makes it harder for traditional parties to govern, and they tend to shift away from the political center themselves as well. It's political disruption, plain and simple.

[–] Tinidril@midwest.social 4 points 1 week ago

The right wing parties shift away from the center. Not so much the left leaning parties.

[–] NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The fuck is she doing slithering up to Putin then? Do they think Lenin’s corpse is suddenly going to bust out of its glass sarcophagus and bring back the CCCP?

[–] Quittenbrot@feddit.org 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

They're so obsessed with 'overcoming the system' that they don't care whatsoever who to share the bed with to - allegedly - reach that goal.

That their great benefactor doesn't want them to reach their - or any - goal at all but just plays them like a puppet master to sow constant dissent, is beyond their scope of understanding. Useful idiots.

Fuckin tankies.

Seems to be the French equivalent of Germany's Sahra Wagenknecht. Also nominally left-wing populist, but pro-Russia and taking weird rightwing talking points.

She should be banned from national politics.

[–] reabsorbthelight@lemmy.world 28 points 1 week ago (5 children)

They are flying a Russian flag? So they aren't even trying to hide it?

[–] user81720483@feddit.org 17 points 1 week ago

Treason. Vermin like her should be deported to Russia.

[–] Manfredolin@feddit.org 15 points 1 week ago

For a long time the penalty for Treason was Death. Just saying.

[–] manniesalado@piefed.social 14 points 1 week ago (1 children)

It was not NATO tried to knock over Ukraine.

[–] Pip@feddit.org 12 points 1 week ago (1 children)

You can always find an idiot in any country.

[–] Quittenbrot@feddit.org 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Problem is when that idiot finds an increasing number of other idiots voting for them..

[–] Don_alForno@feddit.org 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

The real problem is when you are only left with the choice between centrist neoliberal billionaire bootlickers, pro russian far right billionaire bootlickers or pro russian leftists (who you at least hope are not billionaire bootlickers).

[–] Quittenbrot@feddit.org 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Given that Putin also is a billionaire, aren't they also billionaire bootlickers?

[–] Don_alForno@feddit.org 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)
[–] Quittenbrot@feddit.org 1 points 1 week ago (2 children)

But where's the hope coming from if you, as in the video above, can clearly see that they absolutely love to lick that boot squeaky clean?

Well that's fucking disappointing for an LFI spokesperson to be saying.

[–] bossito@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago (4 children)

Only if you're not paying attention to the party, they always eagerly fit into the worst clichΓͺs of far-left. Always siding with dictators, Islamic terrorists, antissemitic propaganda etc.. really much more similar to the RN then they're supporters like to admit.

The very sad thing is that in France it is the Left doing this. She is a member of La France insoumise, Melanchon's party.

From my understanding, the other problem is that Macron, in the middle of two Putin/fascist parties, is preferring to deal with the historical Fascists.

What puzzles me is that I heard that Melanchon is counting on the votes of young Muslims and other second generation immigrants and I cannot see of any of them would be ok with this.

Elle peut se mettre dans un grand tas de merde. Va chier grande putte de merde.

[–] CosmoNova@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

In a better society politicians like that would be sentenced to clear mine fields.
