Trump disrupts international oil markets 'just for fun'.

[–] fonix232@fedia.io 55 points 1 week ago (2 children)

The next article I'd love to read is entitled "Blood clot disrupts circulatory system of tangerine wannabe dictator 'for fun'; Trump dead at 79"

[–] Alexstarfire@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago

Don't give me hope.

[–] LogicalDrivel@sopuli.xyz 9 points 1 week ago

Im hoping for something more...painful. But Beggars cant be choosers i suppose.

[–] Sibbo@sopuli.xyz 5 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

The fact that people die on-site is likely the worse part. Unless a rising oil price causes people to die elsewhere.

[–] nymnympseudonym@piefed.social 4 points 1 week ago

Actually by pricing food and drugs out of reach and bad economy shedding jobs -- yes, that is exactly what happens

[–] Rentlar@lemmy.ca 62 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

Trump hikes Americans' (Democrats and Republicans alike) cost of living "just for fun".

[–] Didntdoit71@feddit.online 30 points 1 week ago (3 children)

He'll just lie to his cult and tell them that gas is under $2 a gallon...like he's been doing for months...they'll believe him and continue to support him - even as they pay over $3 at the pump - "it MUST be $2 SOMEWHERE...duh president wouldn't, lie - he's a gud Christian man!" It's back over $3 a gallon in Charlotte, NC and we're considered relatively cheap here. The economy has NEVER gotten better, but ask any Republicans and they'll tell you how wonderful life is under Rump!

[–] XTL@sopuli.xyz 14 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Nice to hear that gas still costs nothing in US.

[–] Didntdoit71@feddit.online 1 points 2 days ago

I know that the US enjoys cheap gas prices. That's not the fault of the consumer. Honestly, we need to be phasing oil out across the board - in everything from fuel to plastics. It won't happen... until oil costs so much that people stop using it. Maybe that's Trump's plan... maybe... and I'm being extraordinarily sarcastic here: His whole plan is to end US oil dependancy by making it too expensive for anyone to buy.

[–] Diddlydee@feddit.uk 9 points 1 week ago

Your fuel is ridiculously cheap.

[–] rayyy@piefed.social 2 points 1 week ago

And food prices have been reduced by 800 to 1200% - yeah, that's the ticket.

[–] FooBarrington@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

Americans (and the rest of the world)

[–] A_norny_mousse@piefed.zip 58 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I heard him talk about the war the other day, it's so disgusting. He's gloating. He's saying the dumbest shit. He's happy 🤮

[–] SpruceBringsteen@lemmy.world 28 points 1 week ago (2 children)

They're talking big talk, but sending in 2000 marines isn't going to do much. Iran can play whack a mole while they wait out the clock. It's a huge mountainous country and they only need to hit one ship in the strait to cause havoc.

Trump's already had the gall to look around for allies to help in the strait after his year long backstabbing tour. Iran's upped their demands because they smell blood in the water and they just need to draw things out.

[–] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 14 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

after his year long backstabbing tour.

It's wild that someone with his status hasn't figured out that maybe we shouldn't bully every single country in the world, if only out of self-preservation and our own self-interest.

I really hate that we as a people no longer care if our presidents have functioning brains.

[–] SlurpingPus@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

The famous shart of the deal.

[–] apftwb@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

Trump's already had the gall to look around for allies to help in the strait after his year long backstabbing tour

Hey guys, anyone want to start WW3 on my side? Our power has been checked by Iran and we could really use some help. But also we don't need your help. UK? Canada?... Japan?... China? I know your ships have free passage, but It would make really fun headlines if you helped me.

[–] brachiosaurus@mander.xyz 43 points 1 week ago (2 children)

You are paying taxes so that this man can have fun

[–] Heikki2@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago

We always have been. The 1st time there were people who would say no and explain why. Now we have "yes men" just agreeing with every smooth, mushy -brained idea that come out

[–] dan1101@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

This has been true to varying degrees in most administrations, but the sum of the greedy and evil and reckless actions right now seems unprecedented.

[–] SkyeStarfall@lemmy.blahaj.zone 37 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Trump is making an excellent case for investing far more into renewables and phasing out oil, at least for energy

Something that I would have said was obvious for decades, that renewables is a matter of national security almost, but you know, people are stubborn

[–] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 19 points 1 week ago

I remember these discussions being had in the 90's, and the excuse was always: "But it'll cost a lot and take decades."

And now here we are. Decades.

For the first time ever, the orange child rapist is doing something good: he's convincing people to switch to EVs at a rate nobody ever did. Seeing gas prices skyrocket has changed the mind of more coworkers to buy an EV as the next car than anything else. So... thanks, I guess?

[–] MunkysUnkEnz0@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

look into balcony solar panel systems they're coming over to the US they're huge in Europe

[–] FatVegan@leminal.space 4 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Gas prices. Not bombing schools.

You know how they work: "does bombing a school affect me directly?"

[–] JasonDJ@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

What about the last ten years makes you think that the typical American has any shred of empathy within them?

[–] Jax@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 week ago

Dude, I yelled at my coworker for calling the school bombing a 'pain point'. Let's not behave like MAGA makes up the typical American.

[–] hovercat@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 week ago (2 children)

There's a part of me that wants to believe that Trump is basically a double agent meant to be so blatantly corrupt and awful, taking advantage of every system in the US, that it finally wakes the US up and to realize how fucking awful everything actually is, almost like penetration testing.

[–] foggy@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

In his first term I liked to think that he was actually Andy Kaufman in a fat suit. That he'd faked his death and this was his Gesamtkunstwerk.

It would have been legitimately on brand, and as a punchline being "humanity is fucking stupid you're all fucked," would be hysterical.

Alas...

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 20 points 1 week ago (2 children)

That's a war crime, and a president should receive a 10 years prison sentence just for saying it.

[–] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world 12 points 1 week ago (1 children)

let's get with reality here. he's never going to see the inside of a prison cell.

he's going to die before anything happens.

[–] ChickenLadyLovesLife@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (3 children)

He'd flee to Russia or Saudi Arabia before seeing any jail time in the US -- not that I expect any of those outcomes. Just as a point of interest: Idi Amin lived the remainder of his syphilis-ridden life in Saudi Arabia after he was deposed in Uganda.

Americans have made themselves exempt from war crimes. Not surprisingly all (?) recent Presidents have committed war crimes at some time or another.

[–] Walk_blesseD@piefed.blahaj.zone 20 points 1 week ago (1 children)

ok sure lots of people would suffer and die but driving what's left of the oil market deeper into the crater to the benefit of absolutely nobody would be pretty funny

[–] mimavox@piefed.social 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yeah, fuck the oil market!

[–] Walk_blesseD@piefed.blahaj.zone 11 points 1 week ago

sure, I agree in the abstract, but in practice, blowing up Kharg Island would be an unprecedented ecological disaster, as well as guaranteeing the strait of Hormuz can't be reopened any time over the next however long it'd take to clean up.
Unfortunately, the global economy is extremely dependent on the use of oil for shipping, including for food, medicines and the machinery required to make a modern life livable, so like I said, lots of people would suffer and die for no good reason if this were to actually happen. So yeah, it probably will, given this timeline.

[–] PumpkinSkink@lemmy.world 14 points 1 week ago (1 children)

That would be super fucking stupid. No better way to make sure Iran mines the strait. Right now they still need it to export oil. You know the orange one's advisors explained this to him because they didn't target the oil infrastructure on the first bombardment, but he's like Chekov's dumbass: Any bad idea put in his head in the first act must be acted upon by the third.

That escalator could have been a national hero. A couple sudden starts and stops coulda seen the us being led by a vegetable rather than a facist rotting apricot.

[–] mrdown@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

Translation : because he is desparate

[–] Sam_Bass@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

Man's evil has no end

[–] Voroxpete@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 week ago

So, obviously he's lying, either about the address of the earlier strikes or about the intention to keep hitting the island.

But just consider how fucking bad this lie is. Like, if we actually take him at his word, what he's saying is that he will literally put pilots in harm's way, and kill and maim Iranians, as well as wasting a lot of money, just for his entertainment. That's your commander in chief, America, proudly declaring that he would happily sacrifice human lives just for "fun".

Honestly, assuming that he's lying is actually being kind to him at this point.

[–] inari@piefed.zip 3 points 1 week ago

Own goal, like most of the things this administration does

[–] possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 week ago

Wouldn't that hurt China?

[–] Snapz@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

President, strike thyself.
