The capitalist West: "The free market allows businesses to fail, government intervention bad"

Also the neoliberals: "China not bailing out real estate corporations is evil 1984 commie totalitarianism"

A very serious ideology.

[–] Tunnelvision@hexbear.net 18 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Yeah I feel like even as propagandized Americans are everyone pretty much knows bailing out everyone in 08 was a massive mistake and we should never do it again.

[–] TreadOnMe@hexbear.net 17 points 1 year ago (2 children)

We literally did it again in 2020, idk what you are talking about about. What do you think 'quantitative easing' is?

[–] Tunnelvision@hexbear.net 13 points 1 year ago

I mean what exactly do you think a dictatorship of the borgschwazzee is?

[–] Adkml@hexbear.net 9 points 1 year ago

If there was any hope for this country burning down businesses that got PPP loans forgiven would have been a nationwide meme.

[–] GrouchyGrouse@hexbear.net 11 points 1 year ago

I saw Jamie Dimon's name in a headline the other day that wasn't about a jail sentence or an obituary. It's incredible his name still has purchase in the world of economics.

[–] Adkml@hexbear.net 8 points 1 year ago

"But they paid back those loans with interest" - my mother

Yea turns out when instead of punishing a company for taking everybody's money you give them a couple billion dollars of free money they can figure out how to make the 1.25% interest payments none of us would ever get.

[–] Tunnelvision@hexbear.net 62 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Communists will see property developers being punished for going against the interests of the masses and think “hell yeah”

Isn't that what capitalists say should happen under capitalism? A CEOs take a risk and suffer if it doesn't pay off?

[–] JohnBrownNote@hexbear.net 36 points 1 year ago

yeah but then they also do 2008

[–] SacredExcrement@hexbear.net 30 points 1 year ago

Well yeah but not for THEM silly, for other executives and firms that screw up

They just made an oopsie

[–] wombat@hexbear.net 51 points 1 year ago (1 children)

the maoist uprising against the landlords was the largest and most comprehensive proletarian revolution in history, and led to almost totally-equal redistribution of land among the peasantry

Typing this should be one of the requirements for account sign-up.

China is so cool, im looking into the barrel of a dying planet and a government that does not care about me and even if china is somehow ebil ccp 1984 winnie pooh corruption atleast they did things that i genuinely wish we could do even a fraction here

Oh no a corrupt government smacked the shit out of the same capitalists that ruined my life here in the states

[–] Wakmrow@hexbear.net 11 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Yeah I'm not like on the China good train at all. But like, every time I point at China doing something good and people here in the US start frothing at the mouth and I'm like affordable housing is good? It's good. You complain about the cost of housing in the US constantly.

[–] Mokey@hexbear.net 27 points 1 year ago

China is good

[–] corgiwithalaptop@hexbear.net 22 points 1 year ago (2 children)
[–] MayoPete@hexbear.net 25 points 1 year ago (1 children)

They could be even more based?

[–] corgiwithalaptop@hexbear.net 21 points 1 year ago

Got me there

[–] Wakmrow@hexbear.net 11 points 1 year ago

I don't have a strong opinion on China. I don't know a lot about the politics and I don't trust Western media to report accurately about it.

Can anyone tell me the reference to this emoji?

[–] Babs@hexbear.net 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

She was helping MINORS to get HRT!!

(Anti-communist trans youtuber Keffals used to sponsor a website giving information about DIY HRT. It was the most based thing she has ever done.)

[–] SummerIsTooWarm@hexbear.net 43 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Do they really belive that it would be good to give property developers a bailout?

[–] DefinitelyNotAPhone@hexbear.net 37 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It's CNBC, a news channel by finance bros for finance bros.

The mere concept that rich people should not be coddled in literally every way imaginable is like hell to them.

[–] SummerIsTooWarm@hexbear.net 4 points 1 year ago

Good point. Imagine how rich people must feel when they get no treats.

[–] Adkml@hexbear.net 11 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Oh were gonna spend billions of dollars bailing out all the people who thought it was a good investment to buy a bunch of rental properties and charge people more for rent than they make in a month.

Rent can't keep going up 20% every year for too long before something breaks.

[–] SummerIsTooWarm@hexbear.net 7 points 1 year ago

It's really easy, renters can just make more money to pay rent. I don't see any problems with that. smuglord

[–] RedQuestionAsker2@hexbear.net 41 points 1 year ago (1 children)

China's speculative real estate market has been insane for decades now. If you've ever visited, you can literally see it. A lot of the projects lose funding midway through and just go half constructed and abandoned for years. Large scale malls that were built in the last 5 - 10 years are just completely empty.

Really hoping this is an opportunity for crackdown and the government takes it.

[–] Flyberius@hexbear.net 16 points 1 year ago

I will say that there is a lot of cheap real estate. I can buy a flat that is five times the size of my shoebox sized flat in the UK for a third of the price.

Once i realized these articles aren't for us, but by and for other capitalists, (with a side benefit of teaching proles apologia) the ridiculous takes started to make way more sense to me.

[–] Adkml@hexbear.net 12 points 1 year ago

It's just a much more sophisticated form of making your opponent a wojack and you a Chad

[–] Zuberi@lemmy.dbzer0.com 34 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Damn that Chinese housing market sure will come crashing anyyyyyyy day now.

Also, ignore the lack of housing and food in your 3rd-world-capitalism-party of a country

[–] Adkml@hexbear.net 21 points 1 year ago (1 children)

"China is going to collapse because they have more available homes than people looking for homes" - the country with a massive homeless crisis because it takes 3x average income to rent a 1 bedroom apartment

[–] LeZero@hexbear.net 15 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

"Who will build new housing if they punish the real estate developers?"

Unironic take I've seen on Twitter

[–] bigboopballs@hexbear.net 5 points 1 year ago

This is as far as the average Canadian liberal can think.

[–] Beaver@hexbear.net 19 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

But don't you understand, the line is going down! stonks-down porky-scared

[–] Evilphd666@hexbear.net 30 points 1 year ago (2 children)

So I guess we're going to see what happens when a country learns from others past mistakes obama-socialism

[–] Adkml@hexbear.net 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

China is cheating because they're playing the game on easy mode by being able to watch America enthusiastically shoot itself in the face over and over again to learn what not to do in a modern economy.

[–] RyanGosling@hexbear.net 6 points 1 year ago

It’s funny because the US can also watch and learn from China as they lay out their agenda very clearly and publicly with deadlines and timetables.

[–] Tankiedesantski@hexbear.net 5 points 1 year ago

Not China's fault that Americans are pathologicaly afraid of learning from history because American history is nothing but racism, slavery, and genocide all the way down.

[–] allthetimesivedied@hexbear.net 22 points 1 year ago

I’m not a drug addict spiraling into nothingness—I’m winning my battle against sobriety, and the futility of entropy (I just thought the second thing sounded cool).

[–] Adkml@hexbear.net 18 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Oh no China isn't doing the thing that literally every single American complains when their government does.

This is actually hilarious because isn't the core argument of capitalism that the rich assholes deserve to make all that money because of all the risk they take on.

[–] Evilphd666@hexbear.net 16 points 1 year ago

did-someone Is some hedge fund manager stuck holding bags?

[–] SSJ2Marx@hexbear.net 7 points 1 year ago

God damn it would be so cool if the US Government said something like that. Even if it was a lie it would be cool.
