JD Vance is an idiot. The point of the bill of rights is to prevent the executive from doing certain things even if the people voted for it. It would not be in the constitution otherwise.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 9 hours ago

IT IS LITERALLY THE ENTIRE POINT OF THEIR EXISTENCE FOR FUCK SAKE

[–] mhague@lemmy.world 1 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

This website hijacked my browser history so when I press 'back' I get taken to ads. Great post dude.

[–] slothrop@lemmy.ca 4 points 9 hours ago

What are these ads, and why are you getting them in your browser in 2025, dude?

In other words: "If people voted for a president for a specific reason, he gets to be dictator! To hell with the law! Why doesn't the court get that?"

You fuckers going to go apologize to Obama and Biden for all the obstruction and court shopping to stop literally everything? Of course not. Only Republicans get to have a dictator you don't ever question or stop, Democrats get every law and process on earth thrown at them...

[–] KAtieTot@lemmy.blahaj.zone 35 points 1 day ago

Wasting breath on their hypocrisy is the point of it. As is wasting breath on all the small stupid shit they do constantly. Ignore it. Focus on what actually is happening and what actually does matter.

[–] Auli@lemmy.ca 0 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

To be fair the Democrats do it o themselves. Obama was told you don't choose a supreme Court justice in an election year. No law against it just standard practice so he didn't. But Trump did. Obama could have he just didn't because a Republican said it was against decorum.

[–] Asafum@feddit.nl 6 points 19 hours ago* (last edited 19 hours ago)

That's not how it went down, the Republicans complained Obama would just pick a far left activist judge and specifically called out Merrick Garland as a "reasonable moderate" candidate that he should choose, so he did. Obama didn't have the votes in the Senate to have whoever he wanted so he called the Republicans bluff, picked Garland, and then Mitch McDemonturtle started his "it's an election year" song and dance as cover for why they weren't going to allow a vote. Mitch was the Senate majority leader so he had control over what the Senate did as far as what votes were allowed to be taken up. There wasn't anything Obama could do but nominate someone, then it's up to the Senate to confirm.

Just as Trump got his pick because Mitch McDemonturtle has no fucking morals, he was still in charge of the Senate at that time and so even though the 2020 election was in progress he forced a vote asap so they got their pick... They're such hypocritical pricks

Republicans are throwing a hail marry because once Trump dies there's not a snowballs chance they can ever win a fair election ever again.

[–] BlameTheAntifa@lemmy.world 7 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago)

Which is why they’ve been banning RCV, weakening voter protections, gerrymandering, and undermining the democratic process in any and every way they can think of. It’s not because of Trump, though. It’s because they know their oppressive, authoritarian policies are deeply unpopular when presented clearly, which is why they’ve been actively undermining democracy for decades.

[–] davidgro@lemmy.world 27 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I wish I could have that kind of optimism.

[–] BrianTheeBiscuiteer@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago (2 children)

They don't need Trump at all, just someone that lies with every fiber of their being.

[–] GrumpyDuckling@sh.itjust.works 3 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Nobody with the name recognition except maybe don jr. and he has the charisma of a house plant.

[–] GeeDubHayduke@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 10 hours ago

Whoa, not a single one of my houseplants is a fucking crackhead. They're way better people than jr.

[–] kmartburrito@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

... Of which they have many candidates

[–] turtlesareneat@discuss.online 2 points 18 hours ago

[–] Gregg@lemm.ee 53 points 1 day ago (2 children)

JD Vance needs to be bashed in the face with a sledgehammer in The Metaverse

[–] swab148@lemm.ee 25 points 1 day ago

JD Vance needs to be bashed in the face with a sledgehammer ~~in The Metaverse~~

[–] Heikki@lemm.ee 9 points 1 day ago (2 children)

You'll have to get him off the couch first

[–] GeeDubHayduke@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 10 hours ago

No worries, the couch will get him off.

[–] Steve@startrek.website 8 points 1 day ago

Out of the couch

ftfy

[–] TheGiantKorean@lemmy.world 39 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Ah yes. Because he is obviously more educated about the role of the Judiciary than a man who has been a judge for decades.

[–] Tinidril@midwest.social 32 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Well, we are talking about Roberts here. Then again, we're also talking about Vance.

[–] TheGiantKorean@lemmy.world 20 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Right. It is Roberts, but relatively speaking, he's way more knowledgeable than Vance. Now if we were talking about fucking couches...

[–] Tinidril@midwest.social 11 points 1 day ago

way not knowledgeable than Vance.

Nailed it! :)

[–] frezik@midwest.social 7 points 1 day ago

I love it when headlines come down to which asshole happens to be right in this situation.

[–] Carvex@lemmy.world 23 points 1 day ago (2 children)

The man has a law degree from Yale which should be getting revoked soon, clearly he cheated or didn't learn enough to earn the degree.

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 2 points 7 hours ago

Dan Quayle got into Yale law school too. I'm not disputing Yale's once-proud history, but at this point it certifies connections, not education.

[–] OhStopYellingAtMe@lemmy.world 46 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Common mistake. The degree is from Yale Lawn & Garden Center, in Dayton, OH. Just off I-75 South, right next door to an adult book store.

[–] Asafum@feddit.nl 8 points 1 day ago

He wasn't in ivy league, he was in leagues of ivy!

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Oh yeah, I always forget they have a branch campus of UD.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Oh the one across the street from the crematorium! Yeah. Good deals on law there.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 21 points 1 day ago

The court and congress need to realize that they are in line at the slaughter house and need to pull those levers they are provided to get out and that they can't just avoid it themselves but have to save the whole herd to save themselves.

[–] supersquirrel@sopuli.xyz 15 points 1 day ago

I wonder if deep down JD realizes that when he says things like this about people he only makes people like them more.

[–] don@lemm.ee 9 points 1 day ago

The only thing Vance bashes is his flaccid penis into the folds of the nearest couch that some idiot was stupid enough to allow him to be near unsupervised.

[–] ryedaft@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Making enemies of the US Supreme Court. Nice move White House. Is Vance actually a deep undercover mole, trying to sabotage Trump?

[–] Atelopus-zeteki@fedia.io 4 points 1 day ago

It's a self-sabotaging operation. And for this I am deeply grateful.

[–] TheReturnOfPEB@reddthat.com 1 points 1 day ago

big Grover Dill vibes from Vance
