Is this OC? It's a brilliant shot

[–] saltesc@lemmy.world 13 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

I'm thinking not. Having had my fair share of tear gas, it's not fun. Even a block away it'll warm up your face because it's just in the air. The masks are literally just got breathing and seeing, but it's still very uncomfortable up close.

As mentioned in comments below, it’s a Chicago Tribune photographer, Stacey Wescott. Amazing photographer!

Not sure what you're trying to say tbh. What does that have to do with the author or quality of the pic?

Lol. As a non-American, I appreciate your very accurate and quite humorous post.

As much as I support the people of America, this isn't my problem to solve. If you come to me with literally anything I can do from here to help you, I'll do it.

But don't lump me in with you by saying "everyone".

I remember months ago people were like “I guess you guys gotta fight us and kick our asses” and I’m lol no buddy, fix your own problems.

Good sir... Mask up. Can't protest if your lungs are burning for days.

Edit: There's actually some guides on how to protest safely and correctly. Here's a good link from Wired about a baseline level of protection. https://www.wired.com/story/how-to-protest-safely-gear-tips/

And find one written for your city/state, by a organization that you respect.

Dude looks like he was there in the 60's, standing in the middle of tear-gas canisters, ripping a huge bong.

Leather lungs.

No stopping this unit.

[–] ilinamorato@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I think he literally was. I can't find the source, but this guy has been through it.

Curtis Evans, former Marine.

Shortly after that standoff, Curtis Evans stood directly in front of the gate with an American flag. The 65-year-old Evanston resident heard about the first protest on social media and came to represent “the ideals that our country stands for.” He said tear gas and pepper balls hurt, but “five minutes later, you’re fine.”

So he probably wasn't protesting in the sixties — by himself. Probably was carried around protests, getting his first exposure from early on.

Goddamn, the balls.

When/where was this taken?

I understand why No Kings encourages using the US flag, but it does make random pictures harder to k ow the context of

I got my painters mask just in case I need to do any renovations

[–] Dozzi92@lemmy.world 10 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Rah. Dude's been gassed before. Nice to see Marines on the right side of things.

I mean damn I would be so fucking mad if I put my life on the line to protect freedom and a possibility for people in this country to pursue the american dream and now gestures to the dumpsterfire that is the US.

I am already mad, I am mad for these vets just thinking about it, I have talked to so many vets that really would have given their life to an idea, to a social contract and pact to make things better for everybody, no matter their politics the conviction was as real as anything, I can't imagine how mad I would be if I had actually served myself and put my ass on the line as one of those people.... so I try to remind myself of that periodically to stoke my engine.

How can you tell? Just curious as a Marine veteran. We used to do jumping jacks and pushups in the gas room until the last man couldn't take it anymore. Those were the days!

Edit: Oops nm, I found the source on this guy.

[–] Dozzi92@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah, my man here was just reliving the old days. Definitely find myself missing it here and there, but maybe just the clowns and not the circus.

The apathy and avarice is astounding.
