If Iran doesn’t FULLY OPEN, WITHOUT THREAT, the Strait of Hormuz, within 48 HOURS from this exact point in time, the United States of America will hit and obliterate their various POWER PLANTS, STARTING WITH THE BIGGEST ONE FIRST! Thank you for your attention to this matter. President DONALD J. TRUMP

Is trump threatening all of this because he brutally raped those girls? You call that presidential?

[–] anon_8675309@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Iran: fuck off pedo.

[–] Rentlar@lemmy.ca 22 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I don't think that's how you get someone to cooperate voluntarily.

Nevertheless, I thought Pete Hegseth said the Strait is open already save for a totally minor obstacle to safe shipping, that Trump or anyone shouldn't worry about.

[–] zbyte64@awful.systems 8 points 1 day ago

Technically it is open if you're paying in Chinese Yuan 😂

[–] madde@feddit.org 41 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Trumps approval rating still sits at 40 % (https://www.economist.com/interactive/trump-approval-tracker).

Something's seriously wrong with your people, USA...

[–] raspberriesareyummy@lemmy.world 22 points 1 day ago (8 children)

brainrot through social media / smartphones, coupled with propaganda.

We have the brainrot already in Europe - if our propaganda were as strong, we'd be just as bad, sadly.

[–] tristynalxander@mander.xyz 7 points 1 day ago

We spent decades destroying our education system and you didn't even mention it, do our efforts mean nothing to you?

Yep we know. Please send help. Heavily armed help.

As a US citizen I wonder if this is how 1930s Germans felt?

Well except a large portion of us feel the orange shit gibbon is a moron, surrounded by sycophantic morons and kakistocrats.

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 2 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago) (1 children)

I wonder how it feels to be a holocaust survivour in the Untied States right now. I don't know how many holocaust survivours are left, they're all really old by now. Just imagine surviving the concentration camps and moving to the Untied States where things are peaceful by comparison. And then, at the end of your life, right before you die, you watch the Untied States fall to a new generation of nazis, watch the same horrible patterns repeating all over again

[–] billwashere@lemmy.world 2 points 8 hours ago

Good question but damn that’s depressing.

[–] LillyPip@lemmy.ca 5 points 14 hours ago

The idea that Hitler was some sort of genius supervillain is a myth mostly propagated by movies and video games. It’s a shame, because I think this notion made it more difficult for many people to understand what trump was as he was clawing at power.

In reality, Hitler was an incompetent moron, and the similarities with trump are uncanny.

[–] M0oP0o@mander.xyz 23 points 1 day ago

And a large portion of Germans also felt that hitler was a moron, surrounded by sycophantic morons and kakistocrats.

Actualt as the nazi party never won the majority of seats the us is actually more complainant to the current regime.

[–] TheReturnOfPEB@reddthat.com 136 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I hope that people are starting to understand why war powers shouldn't be hogged by one dipshit.

[–] echo@lemmy.today 56 points 2 days ago (1 children)

They're not even beginning to understand. They still think we're winning. :(

[–] CorrectAlias@piefed.blahaj.zone 20 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Saw that diesel in my area hit $6.99 a gallon. Is this winning?

I suppose it can feel that way if you're an EV owner and don't rely on Diesel (or dirtier versions of diesel) to heat your house.

Of course, in my semi-rural area, a bunch of the MAGA voters drive huge, lifted diesel trucks that burn as inefficiently as possible (so that they can roll coal on Priuses and bikers) and also have 1950's oil furnaces that basically burn dirty diesel. I wonder how long they'll keep lying to themselves about winning.

[–] psycho_driver@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Electricity prices will be going up too.

[–] CorrectAlias@piefed.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

They already have. But not anywhere near as much as gas has. It's not as volitle, and you can get your own power with solar.

Also, in my state, the electricity rates are heavily regulated, and a commission can (and has) rejected rate increases.

Giving out an ultimatum to blow up civilian infrastructure is a war crime right

Sadly, the world isn’t going to so anything about it. The World has more or less greenlit Israel’s genocide. If anything the world is going to run and support the US in reopening the Strait to allow the flow of oil.

The oil must flow.

[–] Bieren@lemmy.today 15 points 1 day ago

Is this winding down the war?

[–] Archangel1313@lemmy.ca 69 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Yup...more war crimes. That seems to be the only tool in his toolbox.

Fucking USA wars. Would he make such a big war, and threaten them with nuclear obliteration, if they weren't on the other side of the globe? No. Cowards.

And yes, many Iranian power plants are nuclear. Nice of you to not mention that, asshole potus.

Of course the fallout would still be bad - not only for US "allies" in Europe but also in the US. But realizing that would require some mental effort so it doesn't count.

[–] humanspiral@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

many Iranian power plants are nuclear.

None of them are. It was always a mistake for them to accept Russia's help towards a peaceful energy program, because Israel evil would permanently make accusations as path to this war. There is a plant under construction which was hit yesterday.

[–] A_norny_mousse@piefed.zip 2 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

None of them are.

???

At the very least this one seems to be working normally. Also see

TIL... I'm not sure Bushear 1 is operational through war. AFAIU, they struck the incomplete Bushear 2 a couple of days ago.

[–] JeeBaiChow@lemmy.world 31 points 1 day ago

Great. Were gonna save iran juat like we saved gaza! Cuba next!

Happy yet, sitouts?

Seems to be 2 Trump options that tie into what was reported as extortion of GCC for $5T for war, 2.5T for peace. It doesn't so much have to be a bribe as the outcome of each option.

  1. US withdraws, leaving Gulf security to rest of world. = loss of past US support for their regimes. CIA/Mossad is very good at making colour revolutions in countries that are not loving of the USA. ie. all recognized democracies.

  2. War crimes against Iranian civilians. IRGC destroys GCC water infrastructure, and keeps them blockaded of food and money including more damage to energy exporting capacity. Oil to $300+

The entirety of the US colonial world rulerships need a longer debate on whether US/Israel alliance is worth preserving over the US resorting to war crimes to avoid quickly losing the war, but risking far more permanent global destruction.

World fixing Gulf security without US is easy, and better than any longer war. EU shouldn't care if it pays for oil in CNY. GCC still siding against Iran after the war started makes their destruction deserved. Ending US empire is their path to not face colour revolutions, and directly fighting Israel in response to colour revolution agitation is their path to get population on their side.

Should be a natural alliance with countries that offer useful trade, instead of political capture by the wealthiest. This is a moment for world to restrain/distance itself from US power, and will expose the corruption of colonial system if not. The same applies to Israel's master relationship to US, where Americans may not understand the benefit of supporting genocidal evil, that will be directed towards them, eventually.

What do the Gnu C Compiler and Chinese New Years have to do with the Strait of Hormuz?

[–] humanspiral@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 day ago

GCC are Gulf Cooperation Council states. Countries on the east side of Persian Gulf. CNY is Chinese Yuan currency.

[–] TerdFerguson@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I've spent 10 minutes trying to come up with a punchline for this and nothing works.

I mean, if you spend enough time with any of them you'll probably see something explode...

[–] fizzle@quokk.au 11 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

I'm not sure if he's really thought this one through.

Doesn't look like he's left himself a lot of wiggle room to back down.

I don't think Iran is going to comply.

edit: I kinda wonder why Iran isn't pushing a lot harder to manipulate public opinion. Fake photos of petrol prices. Rumours of fuel shortages. Rumours about the Trump family profiting somehow. Rumours that Bibi was going to release unredacted Epstein Kompromat. Plans to draft people for war in Iran. Even the dems could be doing this really.

[–] Cherry@piefed.social 9 points 1 day ago

It does not need to be fake photos. The financial cost is real, a trump is blatant about his family corruption.

Even if there was a media campaign the USA is a controlled media, so it wouldn’t be shown, if it did people would either forgive it because USA is always a winner attitude or they would disassociate blame AI etc.

You had citizens being shot and that was not enough to provoke a turn around.

[–] emergencyfood@sh.itjust.works 10 points 1 day ago

I kinda wonder why Iran isn't pushing a lot harder to manipulate public opinion.

They do. I have seen public statements by Iranian officials, and even memes (mostly AI), here on lemmy.

But they're mostly in Parsi and Arabic, since that's the audience they care about. Iran is trying to end the US threat against them, which probably means removing US bases in the Middle East and getting the Gulf powers on their side. So they don't talk about rising fuel prices, they talk about Palestine, the massacre of the schoolgirls, and freedom in general.

[–] notabot@piefed.social 14 points 2 days ago

Add it to the pile over there... gestures out of the window to a heap that closely resembles mount Everest
