Progressives should not make the same mistake that Ernst Thälmann made in 1932. The leader of the German Communist Party, Thälmann saw mainstream liberals as his enemies, and so the center and left never joined forces against the Nazis.

Why did he see mainstream liberals as his enemy? honk

Why did he see liberals as his enemy, motherfucker!?!? big-honk

[–] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 59 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I'm sure the liberals were just itching to extend an olive branch to stop the Nazis right? anakin-padme-2

[–] Egon@hexbear.net 26 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

[–] Adkml@hexbear.net 23 points 1 year ago

They should learn the lesson that libs will side with fascists against you so don't begrudgingly support them.

A progressive who stays home on Election Day — or backs Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Cornel West, or No Labels — is voting for Donald Trump.

A progressive who votes for Biden on Election Day is voting to genocide Palestinians

[–] QuillcrestFalconer@hexbear.net 21 points 1 year ago

Easy solution is just saying you're not a progressive so the argument doesn't apply to you

[–] BodyBySisyphus@hexbear.net 58 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I'm voting for Trump by not moving to one of the five states that actually determines the outcome of an election.

[–] citrussy_capybara@hexbear.net 40 points 1 year ago (2 children)

every other country on the planet is actually voting for trump by not immigrating to one of those 5 states and voting for the dnc candidate, it’ll be the world’s fault when they lose and to punish the non-voters immigration will be further penalised in a bipartisan bill

[–] BodyBySisyphus@hexbear.net 24 points 1 year ago

Pitching Minnesota to Swedes like "It's just like where you are now except with worse healthcare and more cheese and if you don't move it's a vote for the guy who would enable a genocide over the guy currently enabling a genocide"

See if libs suggested going to swing states and killing fascists with a giant sword they'd have my attention.

[–] bdonvr@thelemmy.club 15 points 1 year ago

They wouldn't be libs then

[–] jack@hexbear.net 49 points 1 year ago (1 children)

PSL is the only actual political party in the race, so no worries there. Democrats and Republicans are not political parties, just bourgeois fundraising apparatuses.

[–] jack@hexbear.net 35 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Wait this is on THE INTERCEPT lololol what a joke "leftist" news organization

Wow, the Republican primaries have just started and the libs are already chiding 3rd party/non voters for 2024.

[–] Adkml@hexbear.net 23 points 1 year ago

Liberals have already been blaming anybody who has a problem with genocide for bidens loss for months.

Nothing encourages people to support you like preemptively scolding them for not voting for them hard enough a year ahead of time.

[–] Adkml@hexbear.net 42 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Unironically starting to love this argument.

I haven't seen a liberal get more upset then when I tell them "don't worry I'm also not voting for Trump so actually I am voting for biden"

Then tell them by not voting you're apparently voting twice and why are they not taking full advantage of their democratic right by legally voting twice by voting for nobody.

[–] axont@hexbear.net 17 points 1 year ago

Yeah I come from a conservative family who says they're not voting in 2024, so does that mean Biden is gaining several votes somehow?

[–] volcel_olive_oil@hexbear.net 41 points 1 year ago

writing DEEZ NUTS on the ballot and doing a double take as the text starts glowing gold and the letters fly around to form the name Donald J. Trump

[–] TraumaDumpling@hexbear.net 35 points 1 year ago (2 children)

i already held my nose and voted for biden once, a credibly accused abuser of women who turned out to later materially support not only neo-nazi militias but the literal genocide of palestinians, so i'm instead going to learn from my mistake and never vote for anyone again in america. i should have learned this lesson from voting for obama and seeing him abandon every single campaign issue people cared about.

[–] Adkml@hexbear.net 16 points 1 year ago

Yup regretted voting for him the first time especially since most of his actions since being elected can basically be boiled down to "what did you expect idiot I told you I wasn't going to do anything you wanted"

[–] Alaskaball@hexbear.net 33 points 1 year ago

Anyone who stays home on Election Day — or backs Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Cornel West, or No Labels — is voting for Joe Biden.

[–] 4zi@hexbear.net 32 points 1 year ago

Libs: we need to protect American democracy!!!

Also libs: HOW DARE YOU vote wojak-nooo

Note that they point out RFK and Cornel West, but not hillary. It's still her turn, patriots in control, trust the plan.

[–] voight@hexbear.net 31 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I'm not the biggest fan of Cornel West tbqh but he shouldn't be put on the same level as RFK Jr. 🤮

[–] Adkml@hexbear.net 15 points 1 year ago

Liberals are so pissed he dropped out so they can't pin the 12 votes he was going to get on all progressives.

[–] EmmaGoldman@hexbear.net 31 points 1 year ago

Lol

Lmao even

[–] SexUnderSocialism@hexbear.net 30 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Don't fall for this dastardly trick called voting for someone else. maybe-later-honey

[–] deforestgump@hexbear.net 30 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Liberals: hmmm… Maybe our system is fuck up

Also Liberals: no, it is the voters who are wrong!

[–] save_vs_death@hexbear.net 29 points 1 year ago

then cheeto in chief already won because the biggest voting block is the non-voter

[–] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 24 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Wait, is this what he meant when Joe said "If you don't like me, vote for the other Biden!"

[–] sovietknuckles@hexbear.net 19 points 1 year ago

biden-leftist guiding us to the real viable candidate

[–] FuckyWucky@hexbear.net 27 points 1 year ago

im voting for Donald by not being an American citizen

[–] UmbraVivi@hexbear.net 26 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I want Cenk Uyghur to be president purely because it'd be extremely funny if Hasan's uncle became Supreme Leader of the Great Satan

[–] Comp4@hexbear.net 21 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Critical support for Cenk to do something funny

Whenever I hear liberals mention a third party vote is a vote for Trump, it's like they're almost trying to say neutrality is implicit support for the status quo. Except they only apply it to voting because that's their entire framework. It's also a good example of how liberals can only see reality in terms of two teams.

Trump and his backers would undoubtedly support the complete Israeli takeover of the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, and the dislocation of millions of Palestinians.

Oh that would suck if we had a president who wanted to commit genocide against Palestinians. I can't imagine what that would be like.

Despite acknowledging that it would be bad politics, Trump would almost certainly support a complete, nationwide ban on abortion and probably also endorse Christian fundamentalist demands to ban contraceptives, along with nationwide book bans. His aides are already on record calling for the creation of concentration camps for immigrants, while he has made it clear he wants to prosecute and imprison his political opponents, journalists, and other dissidents

Liberals live in a separate reality. All of this is already happening regardless of who the president is. Row v Wade was overturned under Biden and there hasn't been a federal abortion protection. Do they really think Biden in a second term will suddenly change? What the hell is this

Many of his former advisers now agree that [Trump] shouldn't be in a position to give orders to the U.S. national security apparatus. They are right. Trump poses an existential danger to the United States.

Trump is a Chinese sleeper cell confirmed. Please usher in the revolution Tongzhi Trump

The end of the article does that stupid thing comparing progressives now to how the KPD wasn't able to make a coalition to stop Hitler. Yeah except the social democrats just spent the past 20 years sabotaging communists and also they killed Rosa Luxemburg. There wasn't a whole lot of mutual trust between the communists and social democrats at that point, even when fascists were in elections. Also whenever liberals make this comparisons they always imply that the Democrats are the like the Social Democrats in 1920 Germany. Yeah, no. The Democrats are more like the DVP (German People's Party), the conservative party allied with industrialists whose main policies were promoting austerity and privatization.

These people are preaching to a choir with these articles and political Reddit posts. Most people not voting on election day don't spend their time reading about politics online. They're normies for the most part and good luck reaching them with condescending posts like this.

[–] Adkml@hexbear.net 24 points 1 year ago (2 children)

It's really liberating to tell libs you aren't voting for a genocide enabler and no amount of their PowerPoint slides about how everything you think is bad is actually good is going to change that.

Not being able to browbeat people into accepting a shitty situation literally removes all power from liberals.

I look back on my 2020 vote and it was harm reduction. PSL was leading our regional protests over abortion rights while Joe Biden let them be undermined. PSL is against genocide, the democrats can't stop funding them and starting new wars. PSL wants me to have healthcare while the democrats don't believe in COVID and don't even want to protect me against that. I'm not voting against my own interests no matter how much a liberal lies to me. I'm not voting for war or genocide no matter how much Blue MAGA hoots and hollers at the sight of more brown people dying.

The only trick is the one the devil is playing when he says vote blue no matter who. I would vote for the collapse of the empire if I wasn't just going to write in my dog this year.

[–] plinky@hexbear.net 24 points 1 year ago

Democrats can always vote green, why would people vote for democrats in two party system 🤔

[–] Lerios@hexbear.net 23 points 1 year ago

Trump poses an existential danger to the United States.

don't threaten me with a good time amerikkka

[–] Awoo@hexbear.net 18 points 1 year ago

Why do liberals think they own voters?

The Republicans don't engage in this behaviour. They don't say "if you don't vote, you're giving a vote to Biden!" because it's fucking absurd.

You're not getting the vote because you're a bunch of genociding white supremacists hell bent on dominating the world, for the same reason the other genociding white supremacists hell bent on dominating the world aren't getting the vote.
