Donald Trump has claimed there have been talks between the United States and Iran over the past day in which the two sides had “major points of agreement”, appearing to avert a potentially severe escalation of the conflict.

Tehran has denied the claim, in which Trump also speculated that a deal could soon be done to end the war. Iran’s foreign ministry spokesperson said no talks had been held with the US since the bombing campaign began 24 days ago.

Trump’s threat at the weekend to “hit and obliterate” Iran’s power stations and energy infrastructure if Tehran did not allow shipping to move freely through the strait of Hormuz, and Iran’s threat to destroy infrastructure across the Middle East in retaliation, had raised fears of a deepening conflict and global economic crisis.

China attacks South Korea 2026:

> Be the Chinese Gen. Secretary
> Did some naughty stuff during the Cultural Revolution, but tell yourself that it was worth it for the networking
> Sounded kinda good in hindsight, now you're at the top of the machine, untouchable
> Suddenly, someday Kim comes in to visit with a heavy folder
> Pull up a chair for him like you always do
> He splits the folder apart, revealing in excruciating detail what you did, and with whom
> "You know what have to do now, Xi boy"
> Announce an attack on South Korea from you beach club
> Two nuclear powers vs a state with barely any enriched uranium
> Gonna be a cakewalk, 3 days excursion tops
> Find out the Skoreans didn't sit around for 80 years doing nothing and not expecting to be hit
> They make expert use of precision drones, provided by Samsung, to pummel your bases on the coast
> Your soldiers are so scared of these they dress into civvy clothes, get off bases and check into hotels
> They get targeted anyway, since the Japanese and the Americans are providing intelligence for free
> Try to retaliate, but hit schoolchildren instead
> "South Korea is increasingly desperate!"
> Foreign FMs start asking for a reason for the war
> "We had to go in preemptively to stop the Nkoreans from beating us to it"
> 3 weeks in, accomplish nothing
> The Skoreans have effectively closed the strait of Malacca
> Your cargo ships trying to make it to the ocean are burning
> Meanwhile, Kim has quietly pulled his forces from the ordeal to go deal with the Philippines
> Ask the PLA Navy to provide escort, top admiral suggests placing cargo ships in front of warships to avoid the mines
> Out of options, make an international plea for help
> Demand the United States Navy and Indian Navy help secure the strait
> The Indians say that they're considering it (not), Trump doesn't even bother to put in a reply
> Instead they negotiate individually with the South
> Realize that you're really screwed and that things aren't going to get better
> "This blockade hurts your trade more than it hurts us!"
> Threaten warcirmes
> "I will have the honor of taking Mongolia, I can do anything I want!"
> Hallucinate in a fever dream a meeting where you make productive talks to end the war, post it on your Chinese Twitter clone
> Literally everybody denies this ever happened
> Watch in agony as everyone around you think that you've finally lost the plot

Imagine how embarrassing that would be.

Hey, if South Korea or Taiwan happen to need some drone interceptors, everyone knows where to get some now. Battle tested and at affordable prices!

[–] Drusas@fedia.io 5 points 2 hours ago

He's so pathetic.

Weird how every time Trump says that he’s in secret talks with someone, the other party denies it. It’s like everyone is lying all the time, or just one person is lying all the time. It’s sad when I believe other countries that we’re at war with over the president.

[–] CannonFodder@lemmy.world 4 points 1 hour ago

He may not know. We know he's losing his faculties. He demands what he wants from his yes men - that they talk to Iran, that the work out an end to this war, etc. And they don't dare aregue back. They probably don't quite lie, but sneak around the truth, but he doesn't notice and then goes on believing what he wants.

[–] N0t_5ure@lemmy.world 30 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

It is sad. The U.S. has destroyed its credibility in the world, and we can thank Trump and those who voted him in for that.

[–] StillAlive@piefed.world 2 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

Don't forget those who sat at home. Non-voters are to blame too.

[–] orbitz@lemmy.ca 6 points 4 hours ago

If the most untrustworthy person I've personally known and Trump both said something different I'd believe the person I've known before Trump. Yet somehow Trump gets to be in charge of the biggest military on earth.

[–] floquant@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 4 hours ago

Trump is completely unprepared to deal with anyone that is not a yes-man

[–] Munkisquisher@lemmy.nz 6 points 4 hours ago

The media should really be asking why is this senile old man making imaginary deals in his head?

[–] Laser@feddit.org 29 points 6 hours ago (2 children)

He's just preparing for an out, in a week or two he can tell on TV that Iran agreed to all demands and as such, the US gets out. Won't work most likely, but maybe he'll try.

That or he seriously believes this has happened because someone told him. Who knows! Or he might just contradict himself.

[–] HazardousBanjo@lemmy.world 23 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

I've heard speculation that its market manipulation, and that seems likely.

Garunteed this cunt and all his billionaire ilk are storing their wealth in assets that'll survive the collapse of the US dollar.

The goal is to destroy America and buy up the pieces.

[–] protist@retrofed.com 6 points 4 hours ago

There was a story on CNN about significant market movements that occurred 15-20 minutes before Trump sent the tweet

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 6 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

I'm willing to accept it as long as the fucking war ends.

Of course, we'll continue to feel the repercussions for decades.

So much for my retirement.

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

It's not too late to move your retirement out of the country!

A friend of mine is actively pricing out options. It's not out of the question.

Of course, the entire world is experiencing economic distress from this bullshit, so that's not a panacea.

[–] Naradae@lemmy.world 18 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

It was probably like the talks about a Ukraine war ceasefire. Y'know, the ones where Ukraine wasn't present.

[–] meco03211@lemmy.world 9 points 6 hours ago

Or he met with some puppet nowhere near a position of power that will gladly do trump's bidding to be installed as post war "leader".

[–] Arancello@aussie.zone 4 points 4 hours ago

I’d believe the Iranians over teump every day of the week. With the israeli agents (witkof and kushner) in charge of any possible negotiations, I have no faith in even remotely being close to the truth.

[–] Greyghoster@aussie.zone 3 points 5 hours ago

TACO-in-chief trying to back out of Operation Epstein Fury.

[–] graycube@lemmy.world 1 points 5 hours ago

Supposedly the weather is really bad right now so we can't do much bombing any how.
