This is the most shocking part of this article to me. If theyre minors originally on a supervised trip, wouldnt it be like child endangerment or something to not send them back to their parents?

Its like saying “these comments are something else”. In and of itself its a neutral statement that can be taken as a sarcastic negative or a positive. Usually leaning positive, but without hearing it with spoken inflection all you can do is guess

I feel like this is kind of downplaying the fact that Japan is easily one of the most xenophobic countries in the world, with a healthy dose of racist as well. If you arent a born ethnically Japanese in Japan you can never be a citizen of Japan, only a national. This party has nothing to do with that being the case. Japan is just that kind of a country, and even more extreme than their fellow colonial powers in that regard. They just get a pass from the west for it because they are asian…

If he is so willing, Id be more than happy to direct the 8 credit card offers capital one sends me every week to his mailbox and away from mine. They must have killed at least two full trees by now sending me the same bullshit shit every week for years

The solution to all of this “think of the children” stuff is that devices owned/used by children should have to be registered as a child’s device, which would enable certain content blockers.

Forcing adults to verify their identity, rather than simply activating some broad based restrictions on devices being purchased for child use, is a waste of time. Kids will still find workarounds. Adult privacy will be compromised.

Its also an easily enforceable policy to require registration of children’s devices. You can hold the parents to compliance. You can hold the carriers to compliance. Its truly the simplest way to keep kids from accessing porn without having to mess with adult use of the internet whatsoever

At press time, Congress had reportedly voted to close the rutabaga loophole

Much like with a diddy party, part of the question then becomes “how many of them didnt attend a diddy party after dark because they knew what happened after dark?”. How many of these people might not have been molesters, but still knew about the shit that was going on? How many of them saw the underage girls around without actually being involved with them being there at all?

I work in a very affluent environment environment, and its a relatively open secret that 10-20 years ago it wasnt uncommon for adult house parties to knowingly invite local underage highschool girls (for what Im sure were not good reasons)

“PBS and NPR were chartered to provide objective journalism,” Bozell wrote. “Instead, we got drag shows for kids, gushing coverage of Democrats, and silence or smears for conservatives.”

This is that “reality has a liberal bias” hitting hard. PBS and NPR are the only forms of media that still abide by the fairness doctrine and present an actual “both sides”. No matter how ludicrous one side may be, they still do their best to present it in a way that sounds like it isnt insane. Their only loyalty is to presenting information in a way that doesnt align with any particular bias.

So when they present both sides as level-ly as possible it isnt insane enough for far right nutjobs who are used to gargling fox news all day, even though it certainly doesnt treat far right perspectives nearly as harshly as it should (given the facts of reality).

At the end of the day, this a death knell for the truth in an already post-truth era. Fuck all the assholes that voted for this and fuck this country in general at this point, honestly

Immigrants (regardless of status) commit crimes like 17x less or something than born citizens. The worst they can do to a citizen is fine them or throw them in jail. Immigrants have bigger things to worry about

It is plenty possible for someone to have a kid at 16. How is 16 years younger than him not young enough to be his daughter?

"Democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani on Tuesday beat disgraced former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo in the Democratic NYC mayoral primary—but progressives within and beyond the city don't expect the billionaire class and party establishment that lined up against him to give up so easily. Going into the general election, those who believe in Mamdani's vision are encouraging him and his supporters to maintain the momentum of the movement they've built."

"We are very proud of this! We are nobodies, we have no money, nothing!" Tommaso Cacciari, from a group calling itself No Space for Bezos, told the BBC.

"We're just citizens who started organising and we managed to move one of the most powerful people in the world - all the billionaires - out of the city."

Without additional funding from Congress, close to 60,000 households are at risk of losing assistance, undoing years of progress in their lives and possibly increasing homelessness across the country by as much as 10 percent on average, and by even higher rates in some states.

Head of U.S. rates strategy at TD Securities, Gennadiy Goldberg, said that the crux of the $37 trillion problem is that no one knows at what level the debt becomes unsustainable. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent acknowledged that the U.S. government has a spending problem, not a revenue problem.

Goldberg agrees with Bessent’s argument but states that the U.S. also does not tax much compared to both the size of the country’s GDP and government outlays. He believes that either taxes have to go up, spending has to come down, or some combination of the two, but warned that it’s very complicated to figure out.

The White House said on June 7 that the GOP tax bill significantly improves the country’s fiscal trajectory by including $1.7 trillion in mandatory savings, while Trump’s tax cuts will spur economic growth. Democrats have pointed to analyses showing the bill’s tax cuts will benefit wealthier Americans far more than low- and middle-income workers while also adding to the national debt.
