Whenever I think back to my hometown I remember how passionate I and many others were about getting the fuck out of there, and remember the types of people who said they'd never leave. It lines up with the comic and political lines perfectly
We all know the rules. That guy is gonna be the love interest and learn some cookie cutter BS Christmas lesson.
The “I’m allowed to say it, I am one” scene was controversial, but critical to the plot
Would honestly be a nice story if he let go of his internalized homophobia.
this comic feels so forced
Yeah, I pretty regularly have asshole encounters when I'm in the city. In my home town people are pretty chill. Haven't been randomly called a slur like that since high school and back then responding with violence nipped it in the bud.
A white guy with a beard would not be called that in a small town.
They’re more likely to be mistaken as a fellow racist.
Dude is wearing a nice coat and a scarf. Don't you know if you are not wearing a trucker hat and a coat from the army surplus store that you are a fag.
can confirm, any guy wearing a scarf in the sticks is probably (considered by others to be) a fag
I was in WV visiting family for Thanksgiving. I wasn't wearing incredibly nice clothing, but it wasn't just a hoodie or whatever other junk is cheap. I really felt out of place (which I was). I was getting a hotdog at a place that only opens for two days every year now, that was a staple a famous, and the next nicest clothes was probably some old guy wearing a jacket either from a surplus store or from Vietnam or something.
The good news is no one cared. I wasn't called anything and no one seemed to be bothered. I am a straight white man though.
It would have to be someone who knows him, or something about his style, accessories, or behavior, that emboldened a stranger to assume he was gay. The comic gives no hint at any of this being evident.
Or maybe that guy calls everyone a faggot because he’s always confrontational.
I assumed he's exhibiting casual homophobia rather than actually knowing Adam's sexual orientation.
In some places, it's basically supplanted the word "asshole" for a lot of people.
I got called that when I flipped off a guy in a lifted truck who almost rammed into my car on purpose in a parking lot
I'm a white guy with a beard
I read someone saying the other day, that Hallmark movies make a lot of sense if you think of small town empty-nest mothers as their main demographic.
Edit: I found the comment, couldn't find the article they're talking about though.
Plot twist, the other guy is also visiting from a city.
And through various small town escapades they find love where they were afraid to look for it before.
What if your dying grandfather leave you a plot of farmland in this small little town?
Gay grandson of a big landowner in the midwest, like my family owned half a county at one point. Trust me there was never any worry about "inheritance" making it down to my generation ;) The factory farms bought it all up years ago, and it paid for several old ladies to go on trips, live lavishly, and die very old in assisted living facilities.
Then that town better supports LGBT rights cause I gonna max out those relationship hearts with everyone. Now eat your tasty gemstone.
How janky was his bedframe and are there small magical creatures that will demand random packages of tribute in exchange for rebuilding the community center?
Thank goodness nobody acts like this in the Big City.
They might live here

This kind of smart, walkable, mixed-use urbanism is illegal to build in many American cities
I almost read a nono word on the internet, this day could've gone sideways really quick
Oh hey I didn't even notice the asterisk they used for censoring the slur. My brain pronounced the entire offensive word and I didn't even feel offended on anyone's behalf.
What's sad is, this is as-close as it gets to gay flirting in public in a lot of the rural US. You're actually a hot-commodity if you're out-and-proud enough to clap-back with a proposition ... just gotta play-it extra-safe re:meetups.
Funny, Adam posts it uncensored on Bluesky so why in the world is it censored here? Lol
I guess op changed it
The author could have just used a smaller font so they wouldn't have had to abbreviate "FASTERISKGGOT".
